Here is one that is about to go out the door to my friend Martin in Canada. He bought a green river type knife from me a few weeks ago in 1095 aged to look like an antique. He requested a similar knife in a modern steel with a mirror finish. I used ATS34 and a block of box alder burl for the handle.

Thanks Gerry, it turned out to be an outstanding looking knife

It's going to be a camp and River knife for Salmon season.

Nice job ! BTW What is the difference between a green river knife and a nessmuck ??

Not sure if this is exactly accurate but my understanding is that a Nessmuck is an exact blade/style design attributed to a particular person, while the Green River is actually a term applied to a number of blade shapes that were traditional trade patterns of the early trappers/traders. Green River comes from the area that these knives were made in. I understand that there were actually several different makers in that area.

The confusion comes from the fact that what most of us consider a Green River blade is very similar to a Nessmuck. The Green River seems to have a bit more of a straight section where the Nessmuck seems to have more of an overall curve to it.

Like I said, that may not be entirely accurate but as best I can remember that is the major differences.

It looks and feels as good as in the pictures, very nice knife and sheath, thanks GL :)

That's going in with my salmon fishing gear, I hope the river is full of salmon like last year.
