I was hoping someone could answer where I may be able to have my new Spec Bump engraved with my initials? I plan on passing this baby down! Does Kershaw do this? Is there any risk of weakening the blade? May be silly questions, but I have to ask.
Thanks

hey basspro. im thinking of getting my Offset engraved. it wont weaken the blade at all and kershaw does it for a reasonable price. shoot them an e-mail and tell them what you want done. maybe Tif can elaborate a bit on the process.

nothing to worry about.

If the engraving isn't too deep, it shouldn't weaken the blade, Even deep engraving wouldn't weaken the blade since it's not made for prying.

Any local engraver can do it for you, but you might want to wait a while. The Spec Bump won't be your last kershaw, and in a few years, you might find a better one to pass along. Plus, my Leek is a better knife than my pa-pa's old case knife, which is too worn out to use anyway. And if he had engraved the knife when he first got it, the engraving would have worn away long ago. I would like a knife to hand down too, but my grandkids will have much better knives and steel than what we have now.

That being said, if you were going to engrave it and store it, remember to store the knife halfway open so the tension is off the torsion bar and it will remain strong.

nygiant & offset- Thanks for the notes. It is hard to believe anything could be bettere than the Spec, but I understand. I am only 35, so I guess I will have a lot of knives to choose from. I never thought of the torsion bar thing- but this one will be used. This is such a cool forum. I may still ask Kershaw for a price. Thanks !!

basspro, we don't normally do initials on one knife, sorry. A local place should be able to handle your request. Engraving won't hurt the blade in any way.
