i've been eyeing the spec bump since i bought my first kershaw about a year ago. i finally pulled the trigger on one last week, and i am really impressed with this knife.

i have to say: i was a bit unsure about the stud-lock, but my fears seem to have been unfounded. the knife locks up really nicely, and there's zero blade play in any direction. i found it a little difficult to close one-handed at first, but after playing with it for about twenty minutes or so i got the motion down pretty well. in fact, with a little practice i'd say it's actually easier to close one-handed than a lockback or liner/framelock.

i'm fairly nitpicky about my blades, but there is absolutely nothing i can find to complain about with this knife. excellent work, kershaw.

Cool! You'll love the stud lock. Which model did you get? I've only got one problem with the stud locks: When I carry my Bumps or Mojo for a week or so, I keep reaching for the frame/liner lock! Then on a switch back, it takes me another week to realize there's no stud lock!

I'm an old man...change is hard for me...:p

just the standard 1596. i thought about trying to hunt down one of the titanium handled versions, but i really wanted to try out the stud-lock.

You should take a look at the aluminum handled speed bump. 1595ALBLK. Cool knife, stud lock, very thin and easy to carry, and can be found for around $ 50!

I agree, the Spec Bump is still arguably my favorite production knife ever made. The handle materials and blade steel are excellent, the size is perfect, and the handle contouring is better than even most customs. The knife feels more comfortable in the hand than any other production folder I have ever held. Nothing else that I can think of even comes close in terms of comfort, other than the Offset. I would actually love to see more Kershaw folder models with this type of handle contouring.

I also agree with you that the Stud Lock is a winner. Ken Onion told me that he feels that it is stronger than a liner lock or a framelock, and it has held up really well for me in use. Also, once you get the hang of it, you can disengage it in one motion, faster than a liner lock or framelock.

i noticed this while watching your video CW. VERY NICE pickup.

as for the speed bump in all black, it is a VERY nice blade. i know i like it :D great pic up
