everyone,
I bought a spec bump blem, and when i got it, the stud lock had a ton of play. i got a new lock from kershaw, and promptly installed it. now, randomly, the stud lock will engage and then not come off readily. i have to pry it off. i sanded the inside of the stud smooth, and it seemed to help, but it still locks up and sticks 20-30 percent of the time. i love the knife, it is just kind of annoying. i would put the old lock on it, but I unfortunately misplaced it. any ideas as to why this is happening?

One option is just to give it a bit of time to break in. I have three Kershaw Bumps (two Spec, one Speed). Their stud locks varied in how easy they were to disengage out of the box, and all have gotten a bit easier to disengage over time. (None of them ever had anything like the stickiness you're describing, though.)

You could also see if the Sharpie trick works. All you do is apply Sharpie permanent marker to lubricate the point(s) of contact, in this case between the stud and frame. I've only ever used it on sticky titanium framelocks, but it worked extremely well there and might be effective here as well.

I have probably closed the knife 100-200 times, if not more, and it still experiences this problem. i will try the sharpie.

I always found that rolling the stud lock up and over the top works much better than trying to just push it up. I had a Spec Bump that I thought had a sticky lock, but I figured out the rolling technique just worked great. It worked on all of the Bumps I had as well as the Mini Mojo I had.

+1 I have absolutely the same experience. No problem with the lock if you "roll" it instead of pushing.
