I think my mind is made up. Kershaw has sold me on that AO thumb stud- AWESOME! Looking to go with the Spec Bump with the S30V blade. I am 6"5" and hands run a little larger (just like Offset). I will go to the local shop tomorrow to feel one, but wanted to see if anyone had any feedback. I tried a ton of knives the other day, but that quick opening I just cannot say enough about. Thanks, Offset, for the recommendation. I know I am using the wrong terms, but the Spec Bump can be opened with the thumb stud like the Blur, correct? Are there any others I should look into while I am there (other brands?). I want the good blade metal cause I would like to pass this knife on to the grandkids one day (long way away)- I know it's corny, but I wish I had my grandpa's knife.

I just got a speedbump. The knife is super sharp, so sharp that when I flipped it open the shadow from the blade cut 2 blades off the ceiling fan before I could close it back  * LOL* problem is I'm a lefty & this model is not lefty friendly in the pocket :( It's really light & easy to carry. As far as the AO, mine doesn't seem to open as fast as people talk, maybe it's just me ? Hope you like yours better.

The Spec Bump is very easy to open with the thumb stud. If you rest your thumb on the back edge of the stud and just slide your thumb forward along the scale, the blade will open. No need to follow the blade out at all, your thumb never needs to leave the scale. Interestingly, when I am getting ready to open the Spec Bump this way, my index finger is wrapped around to the clip and actually resting partly on the flipper. If I just squeeze my index finger a little the knife will also flip open. No need to use the fingertip on the flipper at all.

For the size and weight of the blade, mine seems to open pretty quickly.

Knee,
Sorry for the ignorance, but just give me a quick lesson on definitions:
Scale:
Flipper:
I am learning !! PS- I am in Orlando but travel to S FL all the time. Any good dealer recommendations? Seems like the best prices are on-line.

No problem, here are a couple of pics to illustrate.

The scales on the Spec Bump are G10, and basically make up the outside, sides of the knife. Just inside the scales are steel liners.

If you move your thumb in the direction of the arrow (basically following the curved edge of the scale), the blade opens without the thumb leaving the scale.

Alternatively, you can see that my index finger is covering the flipper. If I squeeze my index finger in the direction of that arrow the knife opens. You can just rest your thumb on the pivot screw (the big Torx screw in the middle) when you do this, and it'll just look like the knife opened by itself.

I haven't really found a good dealer in the area yet, pricing is usually not even close to competitive with the web. If they were at least within $10 or $15 on some of the higher end blades I'd be happy to support a local retailer.

Kneedeep,
Thanks so much for taking the time to do this. I will be checking the knife out today. Thanks again.
