Spec Bump sharpening.

I just received a Spec Bump in trade and it is one awesome knife! I traded a slightly used Manix for it. It is N.I.P. with the CPM154 blade locks up sweetly and vault tough. My question is all I have to sharpen this with is a Lansky. I sharpened my BM710 with it no problems but this blade has a slight more re-curve to it. Any suggestion without buying a new sharpening kit. Will a Lansky work ? Thanks.:D

Rod Systems seem to work the best with Recurved blades. I use my Sharpmaker Corners for mine and it seems to work ok. If yours has CPM154 it must be one of the earlier ones cuz I just picked one up and it's S30V. How do you like the clip? I mangled mine after having it for a day because it was WAYYYYY too long. Other than that it's an ok knife though.

Yes it is an earlier one. The blade is marked 1 of 500 First Production Run. Really like the feel of the knife. Are the handles rather smooth on your prod. model? Mine almost feel and look like smooth Micarta. I'll probably remove the clip. It feels really good in the hand and almost as stout as the used Manix I traded for it.

They changed the texture to make it more grippy on the later models like mine. There's a thread around here telling about a guy who wanted to remove his clip from his first run Spec but found Kershaw didn't finish the finish under the clip so he didn't. My handle is finished under the clip but the other side of the pivot is big, bare, and ugly without it.

I'll see if I can't find that other thread.

The more I look at it the more I don't want to use it. It is so pretty with its' large First Prod. run Lettering. It looks more like an collectors item. I love the action though. I'll probably take to atleast sharpen it. Thanks Oilman for all the info. I believe that my handle is not finished either under the clip.

Hi!
I just got my Spec Bump a week ago and, despite the factory edge was good, It wasn't as sharp as I like my knives to be and I thought to use my sharpmaker with it.

It's not the first time I sharp a recurved blade, I sharpened my scallion with no problem at all but, with the Spec Bump I can't make it sharp at all.

I'm sharpening at 40º with the 4 steps process and only got an edge that can cut paper but it's not razor sharp. Seeing something were going wrong, I made the black marker trick and got that, in the left side I was sharpening fine and the marks dissapeared in no time but, in the right side of the blade, It's like I'm sharpening way too high from the edge, much more near the black coating of the blade...

Does it means that it's factory sharpened at different angles? What can I do to fix it? Do I have to reprofile both sides or just one?
I can't stand having a knife like this not sharp!

Thanks!

Btw. Oilman, I have borrowed your first pic to use it on another BM thread (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=381612), If you don't want me to use it please let me know to remove it, thanks.
