Spec Bump vs Rake

I have a habit of giving knives as gifts and, to particularly close friends, I tend to give from my own collection so it keeps a more personal touch. My friend recently had her purse stolen with the knife I gave her several years ago in it. We've become much closer since I ordered that and had it shipped to her so, sadly, it is time to bid my Tyrade farewell and pass it into new hands. As a replacement (yes, this is a part of my motive for gifting from my collection) I am looking at either the Spec Bump or The Rake from Kershaw. Similar size, price range, good materials on both, etc. I like the innovative features and more field tested reputation of the Spec Bump, but the blade shape and aesthetics of The Rake really appeal to me. So opinions on either, comparisons between the two, or flaws you've noted in either design would be very welcome. Thank you for your help.

the spec bump is epic. S30V, great feeling 3D G10 handle, great innovative lock...it was a game changer in its day

also, Ken Onion has gone on the record and said that the Spec Bump is his favorite production folder (from his lineup anyway)

I would go for the Spec Bump as it is discontinued and will be very hard to find at a reasonable price very soon. The Rake will be around for a while.

Oops, just looked for Spec Bumps. It already may be too late.

The Spec Bump is a fantastic knife. The ergos are great, the 3D machining gives grip without ripping your pockets, it looks great, and the stud lock is really a nice feature when you get used to it. I also kind of like the way the safety is made, although I'm not a fan of safeties in general.

I find it interesting you are looking at these two to compare as both are very different knives. I like both of them and own both. The rake has a much more traditional blade style with a good amount of belly for a folder its size. The D2 blade has suited me fine and I have not had issues sharpening it and its been a good edc to rotate. I carry the bump way less often than before as I cant replace it very easily and its possibly my favorite folder to handle. The blade shape certainly is unique but it has worked great for me in many tasks.

I would get the bump as they are no longer made as most everyones said and its just a very nice knife to own and use. The clip on the rake leaves something to be desired as it is just so plain. I really like the rake overall but I would get the bump if you have the chance.

I own both but EDC the Rake much more than the Spec Bump, not because it is a better blade in any way, I just prefer to damage my rake more that the spec bump should something unfortunate happen. That said I do like the composite blade of the rake.

I have both as well, like both. Didn't realize that the Spec Bump was no longer in production, so I won't carry that one as much. If you need an EDC then I would get the Rake, if not, the spec bump.

Totally the spec bump. that knife is stinking amazing. the handle is perfect, the clip is very well done, if not a bit large, the blade is excellent, and the stud lock is really cool. you can still get them from kershawguy for 145, or get an offset, the bigger brother, for 150. i would get it now....
