Spec Bump vs ZT 0200

I like the look of both of these knives. They have difference locking systems from what I read. How does the stud lock work with the spec bump? They are similar is blade length and closed lenght. The ZT weighs 2.5 more onces, however. Seems like allot of weight if the overall weight is just 5.2 ounces on the spec bump. If someone has these knives maybe they could post some comparison pics and give a short review of the knives or I'll gladly take info on either knife from owners. Pros or Cons?

Thanks,

I don't have the bump, just the 0200. I can tell you where you will find the extra weight. Everything is overbuilt, strength wise. It's almost overengineered so it won't ever fail . It compares to much more expensive customs and semi custom knives costing hundreds of dollars more.

It is a liner lock that is thicker and more well built than the majority of frame locks. The Grips are thick and ergonomic.

The Spec bump is a very strong , well built knife as well, but I don't believe we are talking about the same degree of size in liners, blade stock, etc.

I wish I could put up pictures of both to compare things like the liners, blade stock, etc.

They are both superior quality knives, one is just built more heavy duy. Joe

Here ya go. Hope this helps.

I think NYGiantsfan had something like a review on both, wait until he gets here.

Here is what I thought of the 0200 compared with the Spec Bump.

WOW! My first thought, was Man this is a big knife! About the size of the Kershaw Offset. My second thought was that this knife reminds me of a Spec Bump on Steroids. You'll see what I mean when you see the pics.

I'm no Vasilli, but here are the pics. I've included a Spec Bump and Leek for scale:

First Impressions:
Very Cool knife! I had it opened before the USPS carrier got back in her jeep! Can't wait to test it out!

Ergonomics/Comfort:
One of the most comfortable knives I have ever held! This knife doesn't want to be put down. Don't be fooled by the pics, this knife is much larger than the Spec Bump. Not necessarily in overall length, but in thickness of materials. The size difference is more apparent in the pic of the two knives closed. I have the 0200 in my right jeans pocket right now and it doesnt feel bulky, but I know it's there. I bet I can carry it all day without fatigue, though I DO weigh 250 lbs. This is not a knife for small people...

Deployment:
This knife opens as fast as any AO knife. An owner of this knife will not miss the SpeedSafe. I found that the thumbstuds actually open the knife faster for me that the flipper, and puts my hand in a more secure position faster. I will experiment with drawing this knife from my pocket and see which method is faster (thumbstuds vs. flipper).

Edge/Materials
From what I can see so far, nothing has been sacrificed with this knife. The blade is strong and sharp, with no blade play at all. In fact, this liner lock is stronger than most frame locks. Just outstanding fit & finish so far! Built like a tank, without seeming cumbersome. The G-10 is very grippy, but comfortable, just like my favorite Spec Bump.

I will add info on the edge once I've sliced up the box the knife came in. :D

I watched a few videos of people opening and holding these knives. They both open quickly. How does the stud lock work on the spec bump? The ZT looks like it's about a half inch wider than the Spec. Thanks for all the great pics.

nygiantsfan3342: Nice pics and review! That's one beefy looking knife.

Studlocks are a sweet setup, and stronger than heck; I really like them. The only thing odd about them is getting used to them. You instinctively reach for the liner or frame lock to close the knife, but that goes away after a day or so.

Question: Is the Thumb Stud pressed in ala Cyclone?

I owned a ZT 0200 and can endorse it without qualification. It is a bruiser, an absolute tank of a knife with simply outstanding ergonomics, and worth well in excess of the cost. BUT - I sold mine b/c I realized that any time I knew that would need a knife that burly, I'd bring a fixed blade instead. But if I didn't know in advance, I wouldn't leave the house with the ZT but with a smaller & more pocket-friendly knife. SO, since it wasn't getting carry time, I regretfully sold it.

I often think of buying another just to have, cuz they are so freaking cool. If you are ok with carrying a chunk of steel that big on a regular basis, then get it for sure!

My god, that's not a liner lock like I have seen. It looks like a frame lock with some G10 scales put on. It sure looks BEEFY.

Looks to me like a frame lock with scales on it as well. And I really like the 0200. It will be my next folder. But... I have several fixed blades in front if it on the list of priorities! Not the least of which is the 0121.

Scary thing is the JYD II has the same lock.

Really? Hmm, I have stayed away from the JYD II because I prefer frame locks and it is listed as a liner lock. However if that is the kind of liner lock it has then maybe I should not overlook the JYD II, maybe the nice new composite one. Thanks for the info.

I looked at my JYD II and the liner lock is similar to the 0200. The blade on the 0200 looks thicker to me however. This gives a larger locking surface.
