Anyone on the fence about a Kershaw Spec Bump - just want to say that this knife is very impressive indeed. Superb fit and finish, super sharp edge out of the box, and a real substantial heftiness that I really didn't expect. It's heavy, but OK heavy. And the best AO action of any AO I've tried so far, which includes:

SOG Flash
SOG Trident
SOG Topo Meridian
Camillus Heat
Camillus Blaze
Kershaw Leek
Kershaw Speed Bump
Kershaw Whirlwind
Kershaw Cyclone
CRKT My Tighe
CRKT Hissatsu
Buck Tempest (the AO on this is pretty amazing too BTW)

And some others too.

So, while the Spec Bump is somewhat pricey, you can really see and feel the quality that you're paying for.
Great knife.

Here's a better picture of it than I could take: http://kershawknives.com/productdetails.php?id=32

I see you also have the less expensive Speed Bump. Is the performance of the Speed Spec that much more than the Speed Bump? Also, I have read different opinions about the s30v steel--how does the blade performance of the two knives differ? How about the handle comfort of the two? What I am really wondering is whether to spend twice as much for the Spec!

I have had my spec bump a year last month and I can't say anything bad about it other than the safety which I tightened down in the off position. I do not like extra safeties on handguns or knives. Other than that its an excellent knife.

Obviously you have never had a sharp knife open in your pocket before. I have a Buck Rush that has a safety, but even with it, somehow the thing opened in my pocket. I got a nice little slice reaching in my pocket to extricate it. However, if you have been carrying your Spec Bump for over a year with no mishap, obviously that isn't a problem with that knife. Be thankful! :D

Good question IMO, because the Speed Bump is a real good knife.

I paid just about twice as much for the Spec Bump, and I'll say it's worth the difference. And the reasons are kind of hard to put into words - if you could handle and operate the two knives, I think you'd know what I mean.

The Spec Bump is a heavy, really substantial tool.
The G10 scales on top of steel liners just lends a feel of solidity to the knife that the aluminum handled Speed Bump didn't have. (I've sold the Speed Bump.)
Beautifully fit and finished, with a very, very sharp edge out of the box.
No need to "touch it up" at all. (Although, the edge, fit and finish on the Speed Bump were also great.)

The Spec Bump opens rather quietly, but with an authority that's somehow different from any other AO I've tried.

The Spec Bump handle, with its subtle palm swells and deeply grooved G10, I find to be more comfortable in the hand than the Speed Bump's flat handles.

Only would add that I had the aluminum handled Speed Bump - the Santoprene handled version is obviously going to feel different. And I have not handled that version of the knife.

Hope this helps,
