Hi, i normally don't collect Kershaws,i have a rather large Schrade collection that i show. Recently at a show i was doing some tradeing and fell in love with a Spec Bump a gentleman had, after a bit of haggling i got it from him. I was curious if its common and a estimate on value. Its all black with beautiful smooth black linen macarta grips, one side of blade reads Kershaw over Ken Onion U.S.A, other side reads PROTOTYPE 1596, any help would be appreciated, thanks,G.M

Probably worth about 50 bucks.... You should send it to my house for further inspection. I'll know more about it once I inspect it then quickly move to a different address...;):D

I had one offered to me a while back but some things didn't jive and I felt the value was suspect. The situation is that there aren't really any of these on the market, so..... well, you know how it goes. You need the right buyer in the right time and the sky is the limit.

Does this one have a satin blade? Pics would help. Shoot me an email if you have some but can't post them. This would be quite a treat for the Kershaw subforum to see.

grey menace, not to rain on your parade, but as SA mentions, this knife doesn't jive either. We never made the knife that you picked up at your show (above images). What I mean is, we possibly made to the bottom half of the knife (the scales, although someone may have done some mods after the fact), and we did produced that blade, but we never put them together and came up with that specific Spec Bump combination.

The polished G-10 scales came with only 2 different blades/steels. One was a clad ATS-34/ZDP-189 blade, and the other was a hand rubbed CPM-154 blade. Never ever a black blade.

The Proto blade in your images came from a SB that had textured G-10 scales.

It looks as if someone, for some reason, FrankenBumped a knife.

This is not to say the knife isn't cool and all, but it is not a factory proto.

J, the blade, frame, internals, parts and pieces, and scales (which may or may not have been polished after the fact) are all Kershaw. Just not put together in the presented form by Kershaw.

I hope that makes sense...

I still like the looks of it, even if it didn't come factory assembled. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Thanks for the info,i really wanted to carry the knife but didn't want to take a chance scratching up something rare. its a beautiful knife, the fit and finish are outstanding and now i can enjoy it. I traded for a knife i had very little invested in. I would never try to pass off a knife that wasn't real,i.m a member of the northwest knife collectors club and a very serious collector, thanks again, happy collecting, G.M

Thomas, do you have any pics of the knives that came in this configuration (polished micarta/ handrubbed CPM154 or clad ZDP 189?

Is it possible that someone sanded off the machined texture and polished out the standard G-10 scales on a spec bump? I am sorely tempted to try it myself if I can lay hands on the equipment.

check out the pictures thread. if i understand correctly thats not a kershaw factory model but rather a clever frankenbump.

Check the link in post 4. The last post of that thread should have a pic
