Spec Bump???

I've been looking into the Kershaw Spec Bump, but I don't know what to think... It looks really nice... the handles look great, it's cool looking, I like re-curved blades (that one's a little much but that's minor)... it really looks to me like it ALMOST belongs in the ZT line, but not quite. The only problem is the lock. I've never even seen a thumb stud lock (i guess that's what you call it; correct me if wrong) until I came across this and I'm not sure what to think. Any thoughts about it???

The locks work very well. I thought that they would malfunction but it never happened to mine. And you are right about it looking like a lighter weight ZT0200. It feels like one too. With assisted opening, of course.

Great knife but hard to sharpen, the lock is very secure and has held up well in the 4 years I've owned mine. It might require some break-in time though and may be a little sticky at first.

I'm glade that you haven't had any problems with it because I really like it and would like to add it to the Kershaw collection. By the way, thanks for the reply!!!

Thanks for the info. I really like re-curved blades and this one is no exception, but that looks extremely hard to sharpen mostly because I am not the best sharpener in the world by any means... I can put a dang good edge on my 0350 and re-curved blur but that looks like it takes it to the next level... Thanks for the reply by the way!

Any other thoughts on the lock or anything else on the knife that might be a problem?

My coworker had the AO on his Spec Bump break, now there's nothing holding the blade into the handle. Lock still works fine though:thumbup:.

Good about the lock, bad about the AO.. Wouldn't a new torsion bar fix that problem or am I completely wrong?

Yes it would fix that issue, kershaw will even send you the tool to do it.

No.

To release I usually use my index finger and just continue in one smooth movement by following up the spine until closed. Easiest when you hold knife edge up.

Ohh, that's good! Not that it was a big deal if it was a 2 hand closer, but I do prefer 1 handed closing; thanks for the info!!!

Well, that pretty much kills any second thoughts I had on the knife at the moment unless someone has something bad to say about the knife. Still want to hear those good comments too though!

Nothing bad about the knife--get a sharpener that can sharpen recurves or be prepared to send it in to Kershaw for their awesome, free sharpening service. If anything goes wrong (IF) they'll take care of you. I haven't had any trouble with mine, and I've used mine a ton. Just go and get it, they're discontinued so you don't have much time left.

10-4 on that! Can you recommend a sharper for recurves because I've been looking for one but I'm not sure where to look...

I liked mine a LOT initially. Haven't really used it to speak of, but there is a little vertical play in the lock. I liked the look, and still do, but I am getting tired of all these knives with the flipper. Reason being when the knife's open there is that bulge at the bottom of the blade where the flipper is. Yes it makes for a good grip but I just no longer like the way it looks. And Kershaws in general just seem gimmicky to me anymore. They are very well-made knives and their customer service is great as others have noted, but......still, when all's said and done and I've gotten rid of all my Kershaws, I suspect I'll hold on to my Spec Bump.

Someone said that if Batman carried a knife, it would be either the Benchmade Snody Resistor or Gravitator.........but I think the Spec Bump is SERIOUSLY Batman-looking!!!

I haven't sharpened mine but when I do it will be on my Spyderco Sharpmaker. I'm not ABOUT to try to sharpen that curvy blade on a stone.

If you like a fairly large knife and weight isn't an issue the Spec-Bump is a excellent knife. The lock works great and the fit and finish is very nice. As for sharpening - It's easy to keep the recurve blades sharp with a Spyderco Sharpmaker.

Good (well idk about that but) to see a negative about the spec bump finally! Vertical play is also noted. I disagree about Kershaw but that's completely your call! Thanks for the reply!
