i received this in the mail today, and excitedly ran home to test out a Busse in it. after it got a bit stuck, i took it apart and noticed that the insert was significantly bent. is this normal? maybe it's bent to assist w/ holding the blade still and keep it from rattling? it just seems odd that i've never noticed anybody mention it before.
thanks :)

xinel: really? hmm... mine seems as it if was a mistake. furthermore, is yours flared at the opening? (shown on the right side of the insert, above).

Opening flared to ease insertion of blade. Insert curved to aid in blade retention. Can heat and remove some curve and/or shape to better fit blade stored. Pete

Mine was kind of like that. I just heated it a bit and made it straight, no problem.

just steam it or boil it for a few seconds and fit it to the blade you are using the sheath for, several of mine have been warped like that

I've had a few like that. I use the oven and put the insert on a cookie sheet to fit mine all the time. Just not too long or too hot, they are likely to shrink fast after heated too much. Aluminum foil or tape on the edge of the blade will make it easier for fitting the blade repeatedly.

They bend them to create more friction on the blade. It's part of the retention design. Easy enough to straighten with some heat. I just used a hair dryer. As someone else said, don't heat if for too long.

All mine are like that. I figured it was to keep the blade from rattling. After all, it is a generic sheath designed for anything. If the blade was the typical 3/16", and the insert was straight, it would be shaking and jumping all over the place in there.

Mine was bent too. Blade retention.I just put it in boiling water, slipped the ASH-1 in, and it's all good now! :)

Spec ops is located in Texas. It gets hot in Texas even in the winter (I was born and raised in Austin, and only moved away about a year and a half ago). Especially in postal trucks. Mine came bent as well, but it was July. Just warm it up in the oven on a cookie sheet and it will flatten out. You can then also shape it to the knife blade, or just leave it as is.

great replies! thanks... it seems that i'll boil it and fit it to the appropriate knife. the only problem now is which knife to put in it.
i says that it will fir a blade 'up to 6"' but that seems like it's pushing it. i put a 6" blade in there the way it is now, and it hits the screw at the bottom!?

You could take the screw out and fasten the insert to the sheath by a different mechanism. I have seen zip ties used, and I think it was lunde that drilled a new hole lower in the sheath for a new screw. I've got a badger in my survival sheath, but it only has a 5" blade, so no problems there.

all the ones i got were bent but not quite that bad. still, as most people do i shape mine to the blades.
