Hi Busse Family, I just ordered my first Busse (a TGLB). I was wondering which sheath I should get, the spec ops combat master sheath or a custom kydex sheath?

Pro's?

Con's?

Thanks, Stay safe

SpecOps

Pro's : No scratching of the blade, highly functional, tough.
Con's: ?

Custom Kydex IMO, but you would need to send your knife off for the best fit. If you go this route make sure and get one with handle retention only(as most are) so it won't scratch the blade as much.

The Spec Ops would be good if you don't want to send the knife off, and need the pouch on the front. I've heard it fits the TGLB well, but it won't fit like a custom.
It does have a kydex insert, so it will scratch the knife more than a custom fitted handle retention kydex. Of coarse that won't really matter if you plan on using it a good bit.

I say Custom too ;) No need to send yours anywhere :)

I'm a fan of the spec ops for medium-sized blades, but if you have the scratch, kydex isn't a bad choice. I just like the fact that the pouch+molle attachments are already there for me to utilize. Plus, the spec ops are interchangeable... I've got one on my SARGE ATM.

Azwelle, you were the person I was actually looking forward to (if I do choice custom kydex that is ;))

And what kind of handle is that on your knife Az, Black micarta?

For my TGLB I have both a Combat Master and a custom leather sheath from chuddy bear. I haven't taken the Spec Ops out in months except to take pictures. I strongly prefer leather

Kydex is excellent, and my second option after leather

I will always get a Spec-Ops sheath if the knife will fit nicely in it. Kydex is nice for smaller knives IMO.

I typically go with custom kydex, and make my self my own leather sheaths.

AzWelke makes a great sheath, and no need to send in your knife if he already has the model. I have only owned one of his, but was very very impressed! Perfect fit, and my ideal retention.

BuyBrown, and MashedCat also typically have the blade in house for many blades.

I have owned all three, and been very very pleased with all. (all mine right now are BB).

Another one great maker I have tried was Okuden. On a passarround SHSH from Mulder. That sheath was heavy duty, and very well put together. The retention was very positive.

I have only owned one specopps sheath, and it was not a perfect fit for the knife I had (a custom Bill Siegle). It was secure, and attractive, and had good attachment options. I liked that my leatherman fit in the pouch along with some fire making bits like my ferro rod and striker and a few bits and ends!

Could always get a custom insert;)

Man, I really like that alot !
The TGLB design just looks good in a SpecOps type sheath. Mate that with a custom fitted kydex and you get the best of both worlds.

I like both Kydex and Spec-Ops. The thing about Spec-Ops is it's ready to go, I mean slap a multi-tool in the pouch and get-er-done right now. Although you can get extra molded kydex piece's that will screw attach to your sheath sooooo it's up to you Brother on how you want it. Go now or get a REAL cool set up for your blades. I have to say if Spec-Ops would just make some larger sheaths they would be set i.e. company wise. Make a sheath for a NMFSH -10" and LOOK OUT!!!

^^agree^^

It's downright dumb that they don't make a larger sheath, as well as a wider one.

If you get a custom kydex ship your knife in. I've had to use the hair dryer trick on kydex too many times for my liking. A knife that's been shipped to the kydex folder always comes out perfect.

I bought an azwelke for mine. I am extremely happy with it. Since I intend to use my knife as a camp/survival/general purpose knife in the deep woods - I wanted very positive retention without a pesky retention strap/snap.

Next...I want to purchase one of his masterful Kydex sheaths for my Argonne.
