Spec Ops Combat Master Sheath for TGLB?

I've searched for this but have yet to find if most that have gone with the Spec Ops Combat Master Sheath for their TGLB are happy with it? Does it hold the knife securely without the blade moving around? I do like that it will allow the knife to be carried lower than some Kydex sheaths that don't use a drop loop and that it comes with the extra pocket up front for a fire steel or a folder.

Is this sheath seen more as a stop gap until you order a nicer leather/Kydex sheath or does it preform well enough that there's no need to look further if you like the design? I'm also curious if the insert can be heated and then molded to better fit the TGLB IF there is any slop in the way that the knife sits in the sheath?

Thanks guys!

I got one for my TGLB and I hated the insert. It was bent and fit the blade way too tightly for my liking. I do not like my kydex so tight that it scrapes the coating off the blade, so I ordered one of Azwelke's custom molded kydex inserts for that sheath for the TGLB, and now I love it! :D He uses spacers to where the kydex doesn't scrape the blade at all, and secures the blade in using the base of the handle. Secure retention, while still keeping the blade safe and pristine. Hope this helps -Aaron

The Spec Ops sheath fits my CF TGLB perfect and for the first time felt no need to make a kydex insert.

Yes the insert can be heated and molded for a tighter fit.

Good to know...Thank you.

Do most go with leather, Kydex or something like the Spec-Ops sheath? In Florida our humidity and rainfall is just this side of Vietnam (actually Florida is very much like Vietnam but without the charm) so I didn't know if leather would be a good choice though I do take care of my gear yet I'm certain that it'll get wet from time to time.

Materials are pure preference. I prefer the feel of leather but the ease of maintenance of kydex is unbeatable.

The Spec-Ops sheaths are all I use for my TG/TGLBs, IMHO they are a perfect match for each other.

A member above stated that his insert was bent and that it fit to tight. All he had to do was remove the insert and put it in some almost boiling water for a minute or two then insert the TGLB... no more bent insert.

Also a couple of layers of plastic wrap around the blade before doing the above and you wont have to worry about scratching or scuffing up the blade coating either.

I love my spec-ops sheath for my TGLB, fits well, well made and makes it easy to carry a leatherman in the pouch! Can't go wrong!

I do LOVE the look/feel/fit of a good leather sheath - but the nylon spec ops is more practical/utilitarian. Kydex is good and all but a little to plain for me, I always end up attaching more stuff to my larger blades.

Hey guys, I really appreciate all the feedback, I like the looks of the Spec-Ops sheath and it has the style of drop loop that I prefer (nagging neck injury is always bothered by removing a knife that sits too high on the waist) and the extra pocket on the front so it looks like that'll be what I order.

I have used mine and had no issues. Even mounted mine upside down on a vest to see if it held and it worked great.

I got azwelke to do up a custom liner for my spec ops sheath and it is awesome, spec ops utility, and the security and positive snap in of kydex. Isn't expensive either.....

I've had no issues with mine, whatsoever. It fits the TGLB great and as stated several times above, there is no blade play and it holds very securely.

I will go one step further, I just got a SFNO LE, and it came with the Spec Ops sheath. It fits great, and I have zero plans to change it. It is even versatile enough to tie on to my saddle while I'm out in the mountains riding. I like it very much.

I think I'll get the Spec-Ops and if it fits just fine out of the box then I'll leave it as is...if not I'll try to heat the insert to fix any issue (if there are any) and IF that doesn't work I'll buy a Kydex insert for it. Great feedback, thanks so much!

i slightly modded my Combat Master making it fit my TGLB like a glove. Just take the liner out, boil it, and put a slight bend in it... that will keep your blade firmly in place with no movement.

I don't use mine at all anymore since i got my ChuddyBear leather, but it's a great sheath

I on the other hand don't like the spec ops sheaths, they are well made and decent I just don't care for them. So I just make my own kydex and add a molle back and pouch to that. While I like leather for some knives I like the kydex for the more survival combat oriented knives and leather for the pretty ones.

I got a SpecOps Combat Master for my CF TGLB as well. Found mine was way too tight at entry point - they had it pinched and flared to hold the knife tightly, but was too tight. As has been said, I heated the insert by almost boiling some water and dunking it in there. Then put the knife in it while it was warm. It took some of the flare from the entry of the insert. But I like the fit much better. No play.
