I know a lot of us like the Spec-Ops sheaths here, and I thought I'd just give fair warning. They are no longer carrying the Survival Sheath on the website, the Combat Master has gone up to nearly $50.00 and they have a new inexpensive Basic sheath that will be available in May.
The best deal anywhere (that I can find) right now is at TAD Gear, but their stock is going to get low I bet.
Anyhow, I just thought I'd share some info.

Good looking out Mike, thanks for the info. I'll have to scrounge a couple up.

Kydex liner also no longer sticks up above the nylon. A guy at Spec Ops said that's because kydex is IR reflective.

Yeh, just check http://www.survivalsheath.com/sheaths/index.htm. I just got my tan "survival sheath" and BATACLE back from him yesterday and am VERY impressed. My kydex DOES indeed reach above the ballistic nylon. Very nice snap when the BATACLE goes in and out. Also, he was able to get the sheath done and back to me in a little over a week. Good guy!:thumbup::thumbup:

BTW...I think I read somewhere that the original sheath design is Robert's. The nylon, however, is manufactured by Spec-Ops, so it's the same rig...

I got one a couple of weeks ago for my ASH, thanks for the heads up!!:thumbup::thumbup:

yeah now the kydex liner is gonna have multidirectional channels to direct the spray of blood away from you during silent nighttime deanimation of enemy sentries.

That is a relief, I have been getting soaked with the blood of my enemies. . . laundry bills are outrageous.

It is not surprising that Kydex is IR reflective. Why this would matter is the question.

That word came directly to me from a rep at Spec Ops.

I had gotten one of the new versions, and I emailed and inquired about getting one of the older, slightly longer kydex inserts for a long sheath.

I asked because, for some Busse knives, it was nice to be able to cut out a small groove for the talon hole/hump.

He said that a lot of these sheaths were going overseas. Apparently, the IR reflectivity is/was an issue in combat zones.

Didn't seem at all odd to me.

I was under the impression that people and weapons show up quite well on IR, so a tiny bit of sheath would be unimportant. Not to mention, there are tons of 100% Kydex sheaths in use.

IR reflectivity is a real issue in the combat zone. Great measures are being taken to minimize it. Issue ACU's are now made to low IR specs as well as many other pieces of gear.
