I'm seriously considering picking up a the wallet jr for EDC to replace my leather trifold, and I was wondering how thick the wallet was when closed (the one I have now is just over 9/10ths of an inch thick with all my stuff in it, and I definitely don't want to go thicker). I know this is a slightly relative question due to how full it is at the time, but I'm just looking a general idea.

The only other thing I'm wondering is if anybody knows a reputable place that these can be picked up fairly cheaply. http://www.midwesttactical.com/product.asp?itemid=730 has them for $22, but I've heard of them before and have no idea how much they charge for shipping.

Thanks!

$22 is a good price...

By your definition it's going to be too big. I can't say how big mine was but I don't carry half as much as I've seen others carry, and it was usually the largest in the room. I've gone smaller for the summer. I got tired of it dragging down my shorts.

You might want to think about going in the opposite direction. We have a recent thread The World's Thinnest Wallet that could give you a few ideas.

I don't think the T.H.E. wallets are the best content-to-size ratio by a long shot. What they are is durable, if you're dragging yourself through rough territory and you want all your gear to be as tough as you are. :)

I'd rather have a medium-sized wallet that fits comfortably in my front pocket, and I check it out periodically for excess cards or too much money. (Seriously, how much cash should you be carrying? Leave the rest at home.)

Hrmmm.

Thanks for your input, guys.

I guess I don't really want to go with a cloth wallet, but do want to keep things fairly thin. I actually don't mind the thickness of this one too much provided it doesn't get much thicker then it is (which it does sometimes when I build up stuff like a lot of change or receipts or such).

It's hard to make a decision just based on gut without being able to see/mess around with these things, I guess. Especially when I had kind of decided that I wanted a new wallet, and THE wallet seemed like a reasonable try—it's hard to totally change tracks. I guess I could go to target or wallmart or whatever and play around with whatever they have, but I'm not sure how much that would help.

I like having an actual money pocket in a wallet vs a clip, because it means I can carry checks to write/cash, receipts, etc as well as cash. I've started carrying around some small bills in a money clip in my front pocket (next to my knife), but am not sure I'm ready to move all my money into it just yet.

I need to be able to carry around 7 or 8 cards (incl DL, which would be nice to have in a window), as well (I've already pared it down a bit from where it was, these are the ones that I'd like to have with me all the time).

Are the going to be any wallets of a decent material (leather or possibly nylon or whatever THE wallet jr is made out of) that will be noticeably thinner in the pocket then that one that I could look into?

I may well be asking for too much right now, and need to jump down onto either the "thinner" or "can carry everything I want it to" side of the fence before coming to a decision, but for right now I think I'll sit up here just a bit longer and see what comes forward.

I have been carrying the JR. of 6 months now. If nothing else it is quite a quality product.

I carry mine in my back pocket, and it works well for me. Not sure if it matters, but I wear a size 40 pants. I carry lots of "stuff" and it measures about 1 1/4" thick at the shark tooth closure.

I have 8 plastic cards counting my drivers license. I also carry personal cash as well as company cash and the bill divider is great for that.

When I first bought it I had a bit of buyes remorse thinking it may be too big, but now I like it a lot.

Luckylefty01,

I have used the Jr. for a couple of years now. With 9 cards, some money and some odds and ends, the maximum thickness is 0.97 inches.

I like the zippered compartment in the bill-holder section and I like the transparent exterior pocket for ID. This thing holds up VERY well. Usually my wallets only last a couple years. Other than the black wearing off of the eyelets, mine still looks as good as new.

I agree with Esav; I don't think the Jr. has the best content-to-size ratio. Mine can be slightly uncomfortable at the point of maximum thickness where the shark bite folds over. However, it has not been enough of an issue to cause me to look for anything else.

Another vote for Jr. THE
I'm used to bulky wallets so mine doesnt bother me in the least until I have too much junk like receipts , then I just clean it out.
For the price your not going to find better quality wallet ,plus it is made here in America.
I bought mine directly from Spec Ops , very friendly people.
I called them asking for tips on washing it and they were more than happy to accomodate , try that with many other companies and you'll hear crickets on the line.

I've bought Maxpedition and other items in person at Chicago Army Navy Surplus company. They have a web store, too, though I've always visited the physical store. I saw these wallets in the store yesterday (Aug. 5, 2006), but I would call them to check stock before ordering to be sure they have the color you want.

Here is their web page for the T.H.E. Wallet, Jr.

I carry THE Wallet Jr. and love it. But. if you're worried about thickness, it gets fat fast. I dont carry that much, and it's bulky. Given your preferences, I'd say you're looking for something else.

Well, I think I'm just going to jump in and give THE wallet a try. I think you guys attempting to dissuade me make some very good points (and if I decide I don't like THE wallet, I may very well come back and check out some of your suggestions), but even if I hate it I'm only out 25 or 30 bucks (less if I resell/trade it here), and I know for a fact that I need to go thinner (I'm one of those people that seems to learn best by just doing things and making the resultant mistakes for myself:P).

I'll definitely post here again with my impressions once I receive it (as well as the thickness of it with the contents I described).

Thanks to all of you guys for your input, especially SAK and knzn, for posting the thickness of the ones you own.

Maybe I'll have to drop by this part of the forum more often, I kind of like it here:).
