Just thought I'd share this...

My Father-in-Law came over for his 62nd birthday last Sunday evening, and my 4-year-old Son and 5-year-old Daughter presented him with a wrapped box after dinner to open. Of course, my kids are into opening gifts, so they assisted in the tearing open of paper.

Once open and unwrapped, my Father-in-Law was the owner and first-time beholder of a CRK regular small Sebenza, which is what I carry and love. He knows I'm into knives, and probably thinks that's a little strange, but he is also a big, big fan of American-manufactured tools, of which the Sebenza is the quintessence.

Needless to say, he loved it, and while I originally thought about embellishments like graphics or inlays, I decided upon plain-jane, since I know that he will use and abuse it without qualms about asthetics, and being unaware and unconcerned about the cost, the way a Sebenza should be used (though some may frown on the abuse part ;)). Sometime down the line, I'll borrow it from him, service it, and take a few pics to post. I'm guessing it'll be nice and characterized with scratches, etc.

My Father-in-Law has been a father to me in many regards over the years, and he deserves the absolute best, which in the context of American-made tools, is exactly what we gave him for his Birthday.

Thanks!

Good job Prof. You must really care a lot about him to give such a meaningful present. Knowing the quaility and ruggedness of the Sebenza you won't have any worries about something "happening" to it down the road. That is outside of it maybe getting lost. That worries all of us. :(

If he is into knives a little, maybe point him here or on the forums where he can see "what all the Sebenza fuss is about". Knowing what he has in hand my excite him that much more. :)

Wow what a lucky guy. May be you would want to tell him about bladeforums so he could see what a fallowing the sebenza has.

What an awesome gesture on your part. Good for you. BTW, are you that nice to all of your relatives? If so, can I be your honorary brother or at least cousin? I have a birthday coming up in a few months and would really love another Mnandi. So, what do you think bro/cuz?? :o :p :D ;)

He's a retired engineer, so that makes it all the more special to critical eyes. I don't think he'll find much fault with it!

For those who have never done it I highly recomend giving away a sebenza every now and again ;) I have several times and have never regretted it.I find alot of guys won't buy them for themselves but really like them- even the ones who have no clue to what the cost was. I have had a friend turn down a mnandi but he is a bit odd- he likes his china junk  Why give JUNK when ya can give the best! way to go prof- welcome to the club !!!

As long as so many of you seem to be in such an expansive and generous mood ... I'm going to be 62 next January :D
