I’m hand fitting flags into Commanders for the Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Army. We have been doing these projects for the Pentagon and DoD for over 15 years now. The knives are given to foreign dignitaries and world leaders by our counterparts here in the U.S. as gifts. We’ve done special runs of various knives for all the Joint Chiefs, Commandant and Vice Commandant of the Marine Corps, a number of upper echelon DoD and Pentagon staff and the Directors of any number of government “alphabet” agencies.

It never dawned on me to take a picture of any of them. I always get to keep one as part of our contract. One day I’ll dig them out of the safe and take some pictures. Some of you will be surprised who we’ve worked with over the years.

It’s very cool to see individuals on the news or in photos from the white house and know that they carry one of “their own” knives and it’s an Emerson. I’m not saying that they’re carrying one when they’re meeting with the president. I’m saying they carry and use their Emersons when appropriate.

That would be a cool gift to get at a meeting for sure. :thumbup:
 
That is some awesome, stuff, giving a piece of American pride to a foreign dignitary.

Question for Ernie (and hopefully he answers): was the choice of the Commander your choice, or one by an Army officer? Personally I would have gone with maybe the 7 or 15.
 
That's awesome! I like the looks of that! And an awesome story to go with it, I find it very fitting that Emerson Knives are given.
 
Thank You for the pictures Mr. Emerson, I would love to see the group picture of the different ones you have done over the years.

Any chance of us " regular types " getting something along those lines... hell I'd take an inlay of a shamrock if it's on a Commander :D
 
That is a great picture. Would love to seem the other commanders as well. Simple picture like this make the day better for any Emerson fan, please keep them coming. Thanks.

I second this, except for me the Canadian flag. Or even Better Canadian Flag Patch OD Green.

That's very cool. What other knife company can say that?

It's also sweet that the knife they get is a Commander...not your normal, typical straight-edged handle and blade, but something unique.
 
That is amazingly cool indeed, thanks for the pictures Ernie; I wonder how many people know about this, I sure didn't know. No wonder you call EKI "America's knife company".
