I saw the new thread about the Official Blade®forum™.com®™© special edition skyline. I'm in for at least one of course (maybe more depending on price) because I have the inability to say no to anything skyline.

But...

...does that mean no Kershawguy special edition skyline? Cuz that would be a damn shame!

While I understand that there might not be enough demand to satisfy two 600 piece runs simultaneously, I'd personally rather see the Kershawguy edition first. The price point discussed in that thread seems more palatable. More importantly, I feel that the previous thread went to hell because some of us didn't know what throwing around the BF name would do. I may be off base, but I think most of us were excited to have a community based knife, not necessarily a BF.com knife.

So, what knife would you like to see first?

You do realize that the prices in that thread were pulled directly out of thin air and had no basis in actual figures, much less what Thomas actually quoted right? Because Thomas gave me an actual estimate and I based a tentative price off that.

If you want a Kershawguy special run, that's cool. Dave is a good dude. In the meantime, sorry you don't like the price quoted thus far, but this is based off the initial estimate given by Thomas. We're getting figures on other steels as well.

In the meantime, thanks for the popularity contest, much appreciated.

You do realize that my main point wasn't about price, right? It seemed like there was a lot of excitement and discussion about this knife before you became involved.

I was waiting to see If Dave was going to start a new thread on a non-BF special edition skyline. I appreciate your work as the owner of this site. BF is a great place to hang-out. On the other hand, in the Kershaw sub-forum, Kershawguy contributes a bunch and I'd love to see him get a chance to co-ordinate, and yes profit, from this SE skyline. This thread is really just to see how the community feels.

In the meantime, did you get a chance to vote?

Oh, so the entire point of this thread was a popularity contest then? Well then, allow me to reply.

I apologize for butting my nose into a thread titled BF Special Edition Skyline. I apologize for taking interest in people asking about a knife for BladeForums members, on BladeForums, with BladeForums colors scales, possibly with BladeForums markings. I also apologize that the price for a special edition knife isn't at Walmart Sandviik bladed closeout levels.

I too like Dave. Dave is a very classy guy. Dave does the right thing by me every year by purchasing a dealer membership. I would guess that Dave does pretty well off the forums, but really that's his business and not mine - I'd hope that he makes a killing, because really he deserves great success and all the rest.

I am not interested in a bickering match with everyone. If you aren't interested in a special edition skyline that is being spec'ed off forum member feedback, with forum member input at every stage, and will directly support the forum you are talking on so be it. I am not twisting your arm to purchase this, just like I don't twist anyone's arm to buy memberships.

That said, any special edition item billed as a BladeForums special edition, will be controlled by me, not a third party. This is not negotiable. If you don't want my attention in a thread about special run knives, don't make the thread title specifically stating that the knife will be a BladeForums Special Edition, and have references to it being a BladeForums Special Edition on pretty much every page. I should have been notified before any third party was asked to handle any orders at all, because a BladeForums branded group buy for BladeForums members really falls under my purview and not third party dealers.

I don't think this is too much to ask. Do you? Dave understands my position, and agrees with it.

This may get me kicked off of here and I know it's your baby Kevin but it's a good thing you already have my money as after some of the posts you've made recently I don't know if I'd be willing to support these forums. Like others have said, great place to hang out and yea it's your house but you've come off like a real prick here.........

Yes I do, and I think we need to just take a step back and let the original skyline that was labeled a Bladeforum special, have a chance at becoming a reality. This is why I didn't start a new thread. I will ( Kershaw willing) do a special skyline in the near future, but not until this other one gets a fair chance. I overreacted once and don't intend to do it again. I appreciate all of you here on the sub forum and I appreciate Bladeforums, it has provided me with a job when other things have gone south. So for now I hope we can give attention to the Bladeforum special knife and we can still do other things later, just gives us something else to look forward to.

Dave

Well then, I apologize for this too. Perhaps one day you'll be in the position where I am, and you'll have to deal with this sort of thing. It's a real mood brightener to be called a prick when people take liberties with your property without asking permission... because that's the gist of this entire situation.

You guys wanted a BladeForums special edition knife and from day one it was billed as such. I come in and say I should have been notified of this, and that if it's going to have the BFC name on it, we're going to control it, and suddenly I'm the bad guy.

Like I said before, if you just wanted a Kershaw Mafia knife, this wouldn't have been anything I'd have been involved in. That's not what happened, and I'm sorry a couple of you got bent out of shape by my setting things straight.

Kevin, please forgive my ignorance. I am a relative newcomer to BF, and I really didn't know you were the owner. After you you made your first couple of posts in the other thread I was thinkin "boy, I would have felt the same way". Hopefully, things will work out on the BF special edition and it will become a reality.

I believe it was the attitude or posture you took in setting things straight that brought about the ill feeling from a few forum members. I just think it could have been taken care of in a better manner but hey, doesn't matter what I think because it's your forum........

You know, your attitude in this is pretty funny. I let it slide that you called me a prick because I'm a pretty jovial guy, but you know what? You are out of line.

My first post in that thread was saying that I'd wished someone had contacted me. To quote:
think someone really should have contacted me on this.

BladeForums.com is my property, and no offense, but I'm not going to allow third parties to brand merchandise with the site name and profit from it, especially without my input on the process. I am not against such a thing, but BladeForums.com will control it.

Since there is a 600 piece requirement, any knife would not be bleeding edge esoteric. S30V and Green / Tan / Digicam / Translucent G10 models would have the widest appeal - personally I'd love to see a framelock, but that's me.

I will contact Thomas regarding costs on this. If they are doable, we'll start taking preorders. If they aren't, we won't. End goal is a price at under $100, ideally at or around $75.

Instead of people saying, 'You know what, you are right, we should have asked for permission before doing a BladeForums Special Edition knife' I got told that it'd be free advertising for me, and that 'oh it wasn't really going to be a BLADEFORUMS special edition knife, ignore all those references to just such a thing on all the pages' like I am incapable of understanding basic written English when I see it.

Now you are in the other thread guessing at my cost per knife and acting like I'm going to make a 200% profit per, and pretty much acting like an ass.

I'd suggest that you check your attitude, ricky tick.

I operate this site. I bear all the costs involved with it. It costs manufacturers zero to have a presence here, other than official company representation. There is no requirement for posters to pay a dime to take part in discussions. At the end of the day, this is my baby, with all the rights and responsibilities thereof. So when it comes to people using it's name to sell goods, I have the final say so.

When people tell me they are offended because I dared to say I have control of who uses the site name, I really could care less. This is a simple concept, you either understand it or you don't. I don't like being told that people are going to do whatever they feel like with the site name, the site itself, other members, or anything site related, and that I should just butt out.

Perhaps you can understand that.

If it's good enough for Dave, it's good enough for me. I'll close this thread down.
