Hi Uncle Bill, do you think it'd be possible to special order a Bura M-43 Hanshee Hybrid villager but with slight modifications to the design? Here is a pic which I swiped from your site:

bura-m43-hanshee.jpg

As seen in the pic, including that beautiful old-style bolster in steel (no brass!), but with the following crucial changes:

- blade thickness between 1/4" and a little less than 5/16", no thicker, period :)

The idea here is 'light blade', not crowbar. It will NOT be used to chop up concrete blocks or cut old cars in half. It will be an example of a khukuri designed to be a weapon.

- 18" overall length

- horn handle (5" length, not including bolster). I can't stand the puny handles on the M-43s...they do not accomodate my hands at all.

I don't care if it is not polished to H.I. standards, because, if I understand it, villagers are cheaper precisely because they're not made to look pretty. I don't really care about looks - what matters is that the khukuri be a 'keeper'.

I've seen about a half-dozen of these turn up, usually two or three at a time. The last time I saw a batch came out was last December. Other than the wood handles, the meet all the specs you mention.

There was also a horn-handled version with a pin through the handle. I recall seeing two of those, I think Munk got one of them.

You may want to email Yangdu and see if there are any currently in stock. Otherwise, keep your eyes open, they could pop up again as a special.

I just got off the phone with Yangdu...and I'm pretty much convinced that a wood model is my only hope. Words get garbled and lost in the translation from English to Nepalese, and also from the fact that Yangdu has to go through several people between her and the kami.

I'm beginning to have an inkling of why Uncle Bill has a love/hate relationship with the kamis, lol.

I'd be all over a wood one, but that's just two cents worth from someone who has way too many horn handles. :D

As pictured and described, I'd be interested in one too, especially w/ wood handle.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

So, any of you guys have woodworking skills and are willing to make a 3-D wood model of this khuk with a 1/4" blade? I suck at wood working, or i'd do it myself...

On the other hand, how hard can it be to describe the details for this blade and leave it up to the old master, Bura?

They're only minor modifications of the overall design, after all. If I were to simply them further, they'd read like this:

M43-Hanshee hybrid, like in the picture:

1) Horn handle
2) 18" overall length
3) 1/4" thick blade
4) Steel bolster/buttcap

And, of course, I'd only accept one of these made by Bura.
