Greetings knife people! Time for some show & tell --
Here are some work-in-progress pics of my first semi-custom knife. This is a 165mm Sakai Yusuke Ginsanko san mai nakiri with ebony handle. This was set up via Keiichi from Blueway Japan. Should be arriving in about two weeks - I can't wait!

One interesting thing to note is that apparently it is pretty much unheard of for a nakiri to have a saya, in Japan. I requested one for this knife & was told that Sakai Yusuke does not offer or commission nakiri sayas, as nakiris are for home use.

Update: The blade is forged by Master Craftsman Suogo Yamatsuka.

That's very nice! I've admired Marko's work for some time :)

I will probably keep the nakiri without a saya in order to be respectful of the traditional usage, but who knows!

It arrived today!

Sorry, no choil shot

I am quite a fan of the more subtle, nuanced aesthetic of fine craftsmanship executed with Shibui aesthetics. No bling for me - just a well executed marriage of form and function.

What really strikes me is the *weight* of this knife - it's as thin as my Murata Buho nakiri, but nearly twice as heavy due to a thicker tang and dense wood in the handle. It feels trustworthy!

Edit: I just measured it, and the edge clocks in at 178mm! Guess this counts more as a 180 than a 165mm.

Finally got my camera to take a decent choil shot!
Maybe this will help convey how awesome this blade is. The blade road on the left (right, in the pic, as the blade is inverted here) is high hollow ground and the right is less high and slightly convex.

I've put some crazy thin edges on my knives, but this edge is just ridiculous! Also, there is zero micro bevel here.
