Special Projects Lists

After reading Jeff Hubbards post about the Bond Arms Vantages, I started thinking.

The Special Projects list for 2009 says that there were or would be 50 of each model built (1st year forecast). Jeff says that they have produced 150 of each at this point.

I'd never considered the fact that seeing a Special Projects knife listed as 50 or 100 made dosen't mean that that's all that were made. I guess a person would have to keep checking every list that comes out to really know.;)

Some of my Special Projects knives may be much more common than I thought.

that is a good point. I will mention it to Joe about the list. Truly there are not many ongoing special projects like the Bond Arms one so the list is probably not as inaccurate as you are fearing but it is worth checking into.

Plumberdv; The list heading says "Quantity Produced - First year forecast". I interpreted that as the initial run, subject change and to re-ordering as it is not listed as a limited edition. It would be nice, however, to have a definitive number produced after the run is completed. I'm actually glad to hear they produced more of the Bond series, because that means I can wait until later in the month to buy them and they won't likely be sold out. (I have a catch-up list ahead of these, though the Bonds are on my list. :)

I'm looking forward to those indigo and cherry handles, CJ :)

I'll have to take the time to go back and look at some other lists, but I don't remember ever seeing "1st Year Forecast" before this list. Maybe I just didn't see it.

I checked the lists back about 4 years and none of them say "First Year Forecast" regarding the quantity produced.

Interesting. Then those without "first year forecast" should be taken as the definitive number produced?

Thanks for the input CJ. Now, if you folks would just offer the Vantage Pro (or any model of them) with handles made like those of the Bond knives, I'm sure that you would have an instant hit!

The Vantage line seems to be very popular now and a fancied up option would be great!

Good question. Since the "forecast" disclaimer seems to be a new addition to the list headings, I suppose that you would have to find your S.P. knife on a list, then check the lists before and after that one to see if the project was added to or continued on.

I guess it's also possible that the Bond knives listing at 50 could have been a type-o, intending to read 150. Just to add a little more confusion to the kettle.
