I was thinking we all should start to throw nice pieces of exotic/special/useful handle material in a box and send it to Uncle Bill/Birghorka.
We all love those stag and exotic wood handled knives, right?
Well, the more we send them the handle material, the more they can send us those knives.
I would like to suggest that we just keep doing the special handle material thing ad inifinitum. (Unless Uncle bill doesnt want us to)

I dont mind shipping directly to Nepal. We could all combine the stuff into one shipment and save some money in the process.
Would someone like to be the official repository and then send the box when it gets full of nice wood and antler?

I saw your question to Bill the other day...he said that he would ask Yangdu. Does this mean you got a go-ahead from Bill? If not...let's remember his condition and accept that this is not the time for this.

He gave me instructions on how to do it that do not require him to do anything.
So, we can do it and it wont be a bother to him.
(I thought about that already)
It's cool. We got it all worked out.

Good initiative, DIJ... Knowing how the kamis work, you might not get the wood handle you request; the exotic wood handles will come as surprises, which is kind of wonderful in a way. ;) :D

I may not even have money to buy them, but maybe I will get lucky.
I just think we should all do it. they are so damn nice with stag and exotic wood handles.
It's worth it even if they do something wierd.

Im dreaming of another stag kerambit.

And maybe an osage rod allen hanshee.

The thing I want the most is a dui chirra with the handles on the khukuri and all the little tools made our of some nice wood like curly maple or raktha chandan or osage or anything exotic.

I liked that stag seax so much, I sent mine to roadrunner to have the handles replaced with stag I bought on ebay!!

So come one everybody, if you have any handle material you can spare and you'd like to see it in a khukuri, send it to nepal!

(email me for address)

Heck, I m bowmaker by trade and have my workshop full of exotic hardwood leftover pieces, which are good for nothing. I cant even burn them, since this wood is mostly toxic if in flame.
Let me know the adress and it would be useful to have dimensions for typical handle, so I can cut it into pieces and save on shipping weight.

Trashing my workshop just found lot of IPE which is brazilian ironwood and some mulberry, which is just like osage.
Did you wrote me instructions via mail?
Dimensions for pieces would be also fine. Just measure one of your khuks handles and give me average.

I ll send something next week, since I m going to send money for that sirupati.

This is actually upper nock on IPE bow - IPE is the dark stuff.

The link will not work, unless I rename the file. Copy and paste in the new window.

Well it will make great karda handles!

Doubt if 2 to 3.3/4 inches around will make a kukri one though?

Thats .6 in. to 1.2 inch diameter , I would think?

Good cause Danny, like your idea!

Well, maybe one or two pieces would work for big ones. the rest would be ok for kermabits and jkms, right?
maybe?
At least it would make Dui chirra acessory handles...
