Specialty axe does one thing REALLY well

I bet its a real blast trying to unwedge that thing out of the wood when it doesn't split the log.

Hadn't thought of that! And likely you're right. Age-old simple designs have withstood the test of time for ample reason. Prying a gizmo loose that's thoroughly stuck in 2 dimensions (instead of 1) is likely to be a SOB to remove. Somewhere out there are 'wood grenades' (novel splitting wedges with 4 tapered sides instead of 2) and I don't imagine these caught on either for much the same reason.

That's pretty funny. Must be fun to sharpen as well. What's the price, $250-300?

BTW those wood grenades work very well for me on gnarley stuff. I like regular wedges for clean grain.

For me, the fewer number of swings to split a log would not be worth the aggravation if it doesn't split as cleanly on one swing as it did in the demonstration video. When I split, it's usually oak or mesquite, often with big knots and twists in the grain. I'd rather swing another couple of times to split the log than have it bound up and difficult to extract.
