Hello Ladies and Gents,

I have a gift to buy for an upcoming birthday, and I asked my brother what he wanted and he gave me reasonable, but very specific, parameters. Personally, for years I EDCed a Surefire E2D Executive Defender, but the bulb busted, and I am currently quite happy with a 2014 Edition Fenix PD35 (set on high, for tactical applications) paired with a Home Depot pen light for finding the keys in the dark etc. I own dozens of other flashlights from these brands, as well as Coast (they're damn sure NOT surefire, fenix, or maratac, but they serve certain purposes) and do a lot of work in environments where everyone's taclight choice is eventually a topic of conversation or finds application. That being said, I can NOT find a flashlight that meets his parameters. If anyone has ANY suggestions, they are welcome. If you happen to be a fountain of knowledge and know of several in varying price ranges that would be even better.

The parameters are these:
Preferably:
Pocket clip (or compatible with an aftermarket)
Strobe Function
At least 200 Lumens but the more the better
At worst, the CR123A batteries, but preferably nothing more obscure/expensive than those
Non-Reflective in Appearance (this can be done aftermarket if needed)
Tactical bezel

Firmly:
LED
Size fit for a pants/coat pocket
HERES THE HARD PART: A *silent* tailcap switch. As a function of specified occupation, his confrontations are almost ALWAYS in extreme close quarters, and as we all know, the audible click of the tailcap switch is a dead giveaway, and in the true silence before hell breaks out, it's sound is magnified. He is not one to give up any advantage, no matter how small. I cannot seem to find one ANYWHERE with a silent (or even all that close) tailcap, except those that've been put through their paces enough by a trusty user that it weakens.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I don't understand the purpose behind a "silent" clicking tailcap. Wouldn't the visible light be a "dead giveaway" to the presence of a sneaking operator/brother?

Or does the flashlight need to also be compatible with IR filters?

Why can't the tailcap be pressed halfway without clicking for "momentary on" like on regular SureFire tailcaps?

Light does travel faster than sound, after all.

HDS Rotary Tactical meets your specifications. The one with the flat boot is a silent tailcap switch.

I don't have the raised boot version, maybe that one is silent too. But I'm sure the flat boot one is going to be as quiet as you specify.

Pocket clip is available option
Strobe function, yes
>200 lumens, yes
CR123 batteries accepted, RCR too
Nonreflective, yes
"Tactical" Bezel -- does a crenelated bezel count?
LED, yes
Pocketable, yes
Silent switch, yes (flat boot)

HDS is the way to go.

I've had incandescent Surefires break as well, those experiences made the newer LED versions even more enjoyable. I EDC a Surefire EB1T, for a few years now, and haven't had a problem even though it gets tossed around a bit. If you absolutely need your light to work, stay away from the imports, they just aren't as reliable as Surefire, HDS, and other top shelf brands. After trying several imported brands, and having trouble with every single one, I will only use Surefire or Streamlight (or better like HDS, Lenslight, etc.) from now on.

WTF is a tactical bezel?

A tactical bezel is a serrated/crenulated contact point that encircles and protrudes past the lens. It can be used as an impact device and awards +2 damage to all melee attacks if you roll greater than 3 (D8) on the initiative roll.

Awesome explanation, thanks.

I didn't realize that my bezels were tactical. Most of my newer Surefires have at least small crenelations in the bezel, I think it's so that it doesn't start a fire if you leave it turned on and set it bezel down on a flat surface.

I never knew about the +2, although that explains why Surefires cost so many more gold pieces

Another vote for the HDS tactical rotary. Got one recently and I love its versatility and its size. The tail cap switch isn't absolutely silent but it's as quiet as clicky tail caps come. The only truly silent flashlight actuation mechanism I know of is a twisty but that's not a very "tactical" option.

For a cheaper and more silent operation, check out the S10-L2 Baton from Olight. Not a tail cap clicky though (hence the quieter operation).

Perhaps a Olight ST25 Baton would be worth a look. It has a 2-switch setup. The front sets the level or mode and the tail turns it on or off and is silent. It has a max of 500 lumens on 2xAA batteries. Excellent build quality. It does not have the tactical bezel, though.
