Specific queston re: wood handled goinggear rods

If I get a "4 inch" rod with a wood handle, does that mean that there is actually 4 inches of the misch metal exposed, or does that four inches include the added length of the wood handle?

Also, the wood handled ones are misch metal just like the blank ones, right?
