I have posted threads about slim-line trappers and Wharncliffe trappers in the past. Thank you for all of the replies to those posts, I have picked up a few of those knives and have a few more on order. Now I am interested in a very specific size and pattern: 3 3/4 - 7/8", two-bladed, Clip & Wharncliffe trapper. I prefer a knife without swells, thin is preferred. Smooth scales like non-jigged bone, micarta, wood, etc., is preferred. A full sized second blade is best but 3/4 size is OK. I have a 4 1/8" Case Wharnie Trapper, but it is just too bulky for my purposes. I would love to find a Wharnie two-bladed trapper that is about the same size as the GEC #48. This knife will be an user, seeing time when I am fly fishing, hiking, backpacking, etc. I would be interested in hearing who makes suggest a knife, production or custom. Pics, if possible, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
David

David,
Case made a WT in the smaller size & I think that is around 3.5" closed.
I am not aware of a 3-3/4" production tyrapper like you speak of,but there are jack knives in that size
Most trappers ,production,are 4-1/8,or the smaller 3.5

You can get a custom made one,but since liner materials are thicker, this might be too "bulky" for you, too. That,I do not know

I'm sure someone here can recommend something I'm not thinking of.

Case did make a mini Wharncliffe Trapper in Tru-Sharp. At 3 1/2" closed, it's a bit smaller than David is seeking.
I've seen some customs in the desired size and blade shapes, though I couldn't name one off hand.

David, if you find what you are seeking in a production offering, please post in the thread. I think such a knife would be awesome. The Case is smaller than what I really want and Tru-Sharp is not my cup of tea.

I have a few of the Case's 3 1/2" Wharnie trappers, and I am on Alsdorf's list for one of his. I haven't found a production maker that makes a 3 3/4 - 7/8" Wharnie trapper which is why I started this thread to see if others have a knife that meets those requirements.

David, I haven't see or heard of one myself! It's one
of my favorite patterns, I've looked for all types of WT's
and I'm pretty sure you're not going to find a production
WT in that size! But get one custom made! That's the
ticket! I've got a couple 2 blade WT's and they're great!
Good luck my friend!;)

Thanks, I will. I have had a couple of board members PM me recommendations for makers. It would be great and popular pattern, based on the recent WT thread. GEC, Scagel, Queen, et al, are you listening?

If I ignored the word "trapper" in your requirements, I would suggest a hawbaker muskrat. Most are about 3 7/8" or 4" closed, narrow, and slender. The Canal Street ones are one of the better that are readily available right now, with 14-4CrMo steel (similar to 154CM/ATS-34). Other than the jigged bone ones, you can get them in ebony wood, red palm wood, smooth sunset bone, and faux tortoise acrylic. There's also a Colonel Coon hawbaker in smooth autumn bone (made by Queen, same as the CSCs, so they're nearly identical, but only 420HC).

At 4" closed, the ones I listed above are just a hair above your length preferences, but they're slim and slender, which makes them very pocketable - probably moreso than the GEC 48.

Of course I realize that you're looking for a trapper, but the Hawbaker muskrat gives you the blades you're looking for in the size you're looking for, just not in the same blade orientation.
