I don't really want to open this box, but I do have some very specific criteria. I need recomendatioons for a stainless steel to be used in a leather parring knife.
Fist a desciption of the knife. I attached a photo of one I made out of o-1. The primary bevel is very acute, maybe 10 to 15 degrees, with a small secondary bevel of about 20.
Second, what it needs to do. It needs to cut leather useing a pushing motion. The edge needs to be able to be as smooth as possible with no serrations (even micro). Yes I know that there are always some at the microscopic level. It needs to hold that very fine edge for as long as possible.
Third, possible concerns I have (may or may not be founded in reality) stemming from my limited experience with stainless. Can the edge be touched up with a strop? Is it possible that the carbides in a high alloy stainless can interfere with a highly pollished edge?
So if anyone followed any of that do you have any suggestions? I also need to be able to get it in 1 1/4 x 3/32.

Thanks,
WS

What picture ? CPM type because of the fine carbides would be the choice, S30V for a start.

Don't see a pic, but I'm with mete, from my limited experiance S30V would be an excellent choice. Maybe 440V, there are probably other steels that would hold an edge longer and britalness wouldn't be a factor in a blade that small and task specific.
