Specs of hardware store aluminum?

We've got those "SteelWorks" racks at the hardware store with aluminum shapes and such. Does anybody know which alloy and temper the aluminum is?

I was thinking it might be 6061...if so, does anyone know how to heat treat it for hardness? Someday I'll bite and get some titanium but while I'm still experimenting with designs I'd like to use this cheap, easily obtained stuff.

The store should be able to tell you. It's easier to buy heat treated aluminum rather than to try to do it yourself.Hard aluminum isn't very hard to cut ,polish etc.
