Spectre website aka John Shirley

Good on ya Kismet. Thanks.

Hey, y'all. I leave for Afghanistan on the 19th. I haven't had much time near computers, but I think about you.

John (thanks, Bill)

I'm in the former Soviet Republic of Kyrgyzstan, at Manas AFB. We arrived about two hours ago. It's a little odd knowing that we're in a country that was part of "the enemy" less than 20 years ago.

We're supposed to leave for Afghanistan tomorrow, if nothing changes. I rode a commercial charter L1011 all the way from Baltimore, with a layover at Ramsteim and in Turkey. I have yet to learn exactly what I'm going to be doing here- base security, convoy defense, training the ANA, etc- but I suppose I'll learn soon enough.

I can't access my gmail account right now, but I'm here.

Anyway, I'll keep in touch when I can.

Thanks.

I'm on the ground in Bagram. It's hot, but so far, not worse than MS, except for the dust. Should have an update on the site w/in 24 hours.

Peace,

John

I have good news and bad news. I've been assigned to Sec For (security force) at Camp Phoenix. I'm on tower guard, which should be boring.

My address, unless I'm suddenly sent elsewhere, should remain:
