 Well not really but the first thing I said after I used my (Sharp at last) new khuk. Now I have quite a bit of experience with machete as well as some very nice and very sharp knives, but this thing suprised me. I finally got a friend to use his professional sharpening setup to get the angle and grind I wanted (man that sweet spot is hard stuff). then I touched it up a little. Next I went out to the yard to find somethig to cut. After unsuccessfully searching I spied a piece of well dried bamboo abotu 1.5 inches thick. I picked it up and lightly stuck it in the ground barely enough to make it stand up. Now anyone who has cut bamboo knows that even the green stuff is only marginally agreeable to cut with a thin sharp machete and if its mature stuff forget it. So I lined up, unsheathed my 18" salyan UB Special, and took a swing adding plenty of carry through fully expecting to see the bamboo splinter as usual. As I untwisted from my swing I saw the bamboo in two pieces and the piece I had stuck in the ground was unmoved. The cut was totally clean at about a 50 degree angle and no splitting or splintering at all. Now Im certain that HIKV has taken full hold of me. God help me, god help us all.;)

oh nooooo!

the dreaded tamishigiri strain of HIKV!

there is no known cure and the symptoms can only be relieved by continuous transfusions of new kukhris and the sufferer soon converts his entire garden are to bamboo in order to further scratch the massive itch.

my condolences.

p.s. - there is a support group for sufferers here, you will be required to take and post videos of your cutting efforts in order to assist fellow sufferers.

How true! Here's a link to the Oregon Bamboo Association - I get the feeling they may be useful to you in the years to come:D Enjoy!

Careful. Bamboo afficianados are a cult worse than us. They have a forum all to themselves too. Pretty cool stuff over there. Its good knowing there are nerds out there even stranger than we are huh?

Should we post pictures of Khukris cutting bamboo on their forum and watch the reaction?;)

lol careful they might call us terrorists.

No unfortunately I dont like it I love it. The bad news is that we jsut bought a house and I have to put in the yard myself so there is nothing else to cut. Thanks for the link to the bamboo nerds, my wife reall wants some to block out the neighbors lol.:p

Be careful with bamboo. It is a terrorist in its own rite. It'll spread over your yard like a weed. Which is exactly what it is.

Be careful with bamboo, spyderfan.

My parents planted some in their yard to "block out the neighbors," but didn't think that the sewer main running near their patch would be an issue.

Understandable.

The bamboo root structure found this readily available food source, and destroyed the main. Quite literally. Be careful.

Us "Sick Puppies" have to stick together someplace, and this has been the place for years now.;) :p :D

Spyderfan, welcome! We have our own bamboo officianados here, with Danny In Japan being President of the local chapter. :D He can tell you of his Ninja experiences with bamboo, and has been attacked by at least one rampaging stalk of green bamboo himself and survived.

Alas his knife did not fare so well. :p  ;) Tough stuff indeed.
