On the speed bump model, when you flip the index flipper, is the blade supposed to automaticaly open swiftly into an open & locked position ?

Mine stops just short of locking , is this a factory flaw or is there something I can adjust ? If I use a lot of force on the index flipper & flick my wrist slightly it will lock open but if I just use the index flipper like normal it stops just short of locking ?

Sounds like you have a problem. You may want to lube the pivot area, or just
Send it in to Kershaw they will take care of you.

It should open and lock up firm. You mentioned in a different post that the AO was slow. It should not be, it should snap open hard. Its most likely just to tight in the pivot.

Does the failure to lock seem like it is because of the blade not opening smoothly, or is it caused by the resistance of the thumbstud locking?
If its the thumbstud does it move smoothly and freely in its keyway (or whatever that groove it is mounted in is called)?

As I just posted in another thread if you rest your thumb on the back edge of the stud and just slide your thumb forward along the scale, the blade will open. No need to follow the blade out at all, your thumb never needs to leave the scale. Interestingly, when I am getting ready to open the Spec Bump this way, my index finger is wrapped around to the clip and actually resting partly on the flipper. If I just squeeze my index finger a little the knife will also flip open. No need to use the fingertip on the flipper at all.
This works with my Speed Bump, Spec/Speed Bump and Spec Bump.

ya know kneedeep, i tried to open the offset that way but my hand kept hitting the flipper! does sound like maybe the torsion bar isn't as strong as usual. might just need a new bar

Offsetlover, I believe the Offset, the Spec and Speed Bumps all have two torsion bars. I guess if something was wrong with one you wouldn't have as much speed.

Only the Offset has two torsion Bars. They added two because the Offset has such a big blade. The Spec Bumps and Large Cyclones have only one bar, but would be faster with two.

Thanks for the correction, I don't know why I thought the current bumps had two.

I havent taken apart any of mine yet ,I wonder if the two liners are identical and if there is room for another torsion bar. Cursory inspection makes it look like the liners are the same.

Guys why didnt you tell me about the little screw (on-off) -LOL- :D
on the side of the handle ! I was lubing the knife trying to see the problem when I noticed the tiny writing (on-off) on each side of the allen screw. It was set to the on position so I set it to the off position & now it works AWSOME !!!!

Because we just assumed you had looked at your knife thoroughly before complaining about how the Speed Bump was slow. Glad its working as it should though. Enjoy
