Just got a Kershaw Speed Bump (1595ALBLK) with Aluminum handles from eBay. Has the Sandvic steel like the regular Speed Bump. The handles are very thin, like the Boa or Cyclone, and not contoured like the G10 Spec Bump. I like that the smaller scales take up less space in my pockets, but they don't feel quite as comfortable and might be slippery when wet. I like it a lot and it will be replacing my Speed Bump as my EDC! :D

oh yeah i polished up the clip with some sandpaper, that's not how it came.

WOW! I realize the Aluminum scales were that much thinner! Must make it a lot easier to carry, and lighter, than the G-10 Spec Bump.

Good work on the pocket clip!

Great pics, I love the comparison. a Speed/Spec is my typical EDC and it is a great knife, but there are times that a slimmer profile would be preferred. I did not know about this model. Another great addition to the line-up.

I just got two of these in the mail box tonight when I got home !! Great knife. I also got them from a Ebay dealer at a great pirce ($55 each). I have two of the plastic handles ones which I also got recently and these are much thinner but don't feel as good in the hand. They are very close in feel to the cyclone.....

I wish that Kershaw had gone with either the G10 scales or the Aluminum instead of Akulon (Plastic) for the Speed Bump. The plastic scales are weaker, -too- light, and made the Assisted Opening sound wimpy. A Spec Bump makes a 'click-ping' sound when opened, as does this aluminum one. (the click is the lock engaging, the 'ping' comes from somewhere in the pivot area and resonates slightly.) The knife both feels and sounds CHEAP with Akulon.

I love the design, I'd buy one if it was a liner lock or frame lock.

Uncle Ruckus-- You should get one. i have been carrying a plastic handled Speed Bump as EDC since Feb '06 and after the initial stiffness of the stud luck wore down (after ~20 openings) i haven't had any problems with it. It hasn't ever failed a spine whack test or folded over on my hands when i've stabbed/pushed forward with it in normal use. although it did disengage when i threw it into a wooden board. i must shamefully admit to this, but i can justify doing it because i won't know how reliable a knife is until i test it with my own hands. I have plenty of other knives, and other kershaw knives that are frame lock or liner lock that are LESS reliable. I think the design of the stud lock is worthwhile. Doesn't the axis lock function similarly?

I like that knife A LOT. Really cool design! Too bad it's tip down only :( Tip up carry and making a small choil at the base of the blade and it would suit me just fine. Nice score!

My akulon Bump showed up in the mail today. Could be a little sharper, but it looks and feels great!

But for some inexplicable reason I'm already thinking about swapping it for a spec.

Some of those Kershaws sure seem like alot of blade for the buck. I just recieved a Red anodized aluminum handled Scallion that is real nice and damned sharp for $29

I wanted to see that also but really, there's not much handle to grab onto if it were tip-up. Why would you want an unsharpened area on the blade? so you can 'choke up' for greater control?

Nice pictures but they're hardly big ;)

some people are on modems

I was thinking of getting mine reprofiled to 10° each side. that would make it scary sharp :) i have both you mentioned and i like to carry the plastic handled one because if i lost or damaged a $200 knife i would be very put off!

I mean, I have no practical use for the higher grade steel, and I like the satin finish better anyway. I have no idea why I want the thing. :D

Mine came pretty sharp. The recent arrival of a My Tighe just made it seem less sharp. I was kind of surprised about that, but the bump probably just needs to be polished. Oh, and 10 degrees on each side sounds pretty skeery.

I loved the G10 Bump but the thick edge put me off too. I refuse to re-profile it myself. Recurves and S30V do not sound like a fun combination at all. I'm also not completely sold on the long term durability of the stud-lock. If I could get past these two things I'd probably end up buying another one (Traded the other), because it's an excellent knife with a blade shape radically different than the Spydercos I carry.

I was hoping to find the Sandvik / G10 somewhere because I might give that a shot re-profiling and it'd be cheaper, but they seem to be difficult to find.

Thanks for the pictures, I've got one coming in the mail, couldn't resist trying one out for the price.
