I am a hugh Kershaw fan and have been for a dozen years or so. I am looking at the Kershaw SB now but what do you think abuot the lock on this knife as far as strength and reliability? I don't use my folders for chopping or real hard use projects.

The stud lock is as tough as any lock. Tougher than most IMO. Pull the trigger. The only regret you will have is that you didn't order the rest of the Stud Lock models. Enjoy.

The Stud Lock is a great lock. Very few failures reported. From what I've read, the reliability is comparable to frame locks.

I've found all of my stud lock knives to be very reliable and easy to use. I EDC'd a Spec Bump and a Mini Mojo for a little over a year without any issues.

The way the lock works, the harder the knife is being pushed closed, the less likely the stud is to be movable.

The stud or blade would have to fail for the lock to fail.

I'd love to see pictures of a failed stud lock from Kershaw's lock breaking machine.

Thanks a lot guys. This is the first Stud lock I have seen and I didn't know what to think of it. Are they all the same steel except for the Spec Bump and do you think the The Spec Bump is worth the extra bucks?

You know what I really like about the stud lock? You can close a knife with it without ever putting your fingers in the path of the blade. That is something that liner and frame locks require that just never sits right with me.

I've been EDC'n my Bump for almost a month now, and I'm taking quite a liking to the stud lock. Locks up tight, but is easy to unlock; love it! It did take me a couple of weeks to get used to it though, as I'm so used to manipulating a Frame Lock or Liner Lock.

I've had mine well over a year and EDC'd for most of that no failures and I really like the knife. I would not hesitate to buy one if I was you.

Rick, your avatar makes me long for the days of my youth! If that's you and your better half pictured there, congratulations on your obvious happiness!!

That feature of the stud lock is a good example of its innovation.

Cheers!
