Hey guys. I've never posted in the Kershaw forum, and don't really post very often at all, but I've enjoyed learning a great amount from BladeForums members over some time.

I've become a big fan of two major folder brands - Spyderco and Kershaw. On the Kershaw side, so far I own a Chive PE, a grey aluminum Scallion CE, a Blackout CE, a Leek PE, and now a Speed Bump. I really like the Speed Bump. The only issue I have with it is how thick it is. The logical solution to that problem seems to be finding one of the aluminum handled specimens. I was just wondering if anyone has a good idea of where to find these beasts, besides places like Ebay.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions of alternatives to that for EDC, probably close to the same size, please let me know. I've been considering the Shallot, as it has the less "tactical" look provided by SS handles, and still has some size. Comparisons, contrasts, and any other advise all welcome.

Thanks.

talk with SPXTrader. he will point you out to ebay auctions. but, also, if you check on ebay there are some buy it now ones for reasonable prices.

Hey AB01, Welcome!

The aluminum handled Speed Bump is a very nice knife for the price. On the auction site, you can still find them NIB for $ 50 or so. The model number is 1595ALBLK. They carry great, as they're very thin for a big knife. About the same thickness of the Cyclones, which is also a great knife for the money.

In the smaller area, take a look at the Mini Mojo (440A steel) or Mini Mojito (13C26 steel). Model number for both is 1800. The flipper is interesting as it has a safety built in to it. AO with the stud lock like the Bumps. It's shape is very similar to the Bump, but smaller.

For a non-tactical looking knife, the small ENER-G is a good choice, non AO but with a very unique flipper. With a few minutes practice, they will fire as fast if not faster than any SpeedSafe model. There is a limited edition of these in black G-10 scales with a black DLC coated blade. These come in plain edge or partially serrated. The standard version of the ENER-G is a satin blade and gray G-10 with black trac-tec inserts, plain edge. There is also a bigger version (3 1/2 inch blade) in both variations. The larger standard ENER-G II comes in a satin plain edge or DLC coated in plain edge or partially serrated. I really love the ENER-G's as they will take a razor edge and they're killer slicers!

I hope this helps!

Hi AB01,

The aluminum handle Spec Bump should still be available at Smoky Mountain Knifeworks. I got one there a few weeks ago. For the price, it's a great knife.
