hey i just got a KBRG225D speed control... no potentiometer on it.... you need to instal one yourself.... geez am i having trouble... the thing runs but its either on or off.... thats all the potentiometer seems to do.... if anyone knows about the controler let me know if they ahve experience hooking one of these guys up. thanks a lot

Mike

Mike,

I believe that controller came with the isolation board connected to the main board. That is used for remote control by a signal source. That board will have to be unplugged.

The isolation board attaches to the drive at the top of the main circuit board. It connects to a 4-prong connector. With the unit unplugged from the power source, unplug that connector and leave it unplugged.

There are jumpers on the main board that must be set properly. Carefully read all the manual to insure you have all jumpers set correctly before applying power.

Be extremely careful about your wiring before applying power.

If you want to send it to me I'll wire it for you but don't blow it before doing so because it is time consuming to repair and I am not sure I would be able to.

You're truly one of the good-ones, Roger!

Mike, Like Roger said, as long as your board is jumped properly for your horsepower rating you should be fine. Be sure your pot wiring is correct also. As long as the "wiper" which is typically the middle connection of your pot is connected properly, you can switch your wires around on the board until you get the right direction and impedence to run the motor.

Higgy: Can you look at it when you come to the hammer-in????

Roger....going to the hammer in?

aqesome thanks guys..... yeah i have all the jumper right, everything is ok there its just getting the potentiometer to work is the hard part....
so roger if i unhook the S1X4 board i can just hook up the potentiometer as the instructions say on the regular 225d board?:? as far as the pot. now my wiper (center) should be hooked to terminal 13 right roger? then one of the seides hooked to terminal 12 for single direction controL?

Michael, I'll dig my papers out and get back with terminal locations. .....but check your manual - I believe it calls for a 5k ohm pot. If that be the case a 10k will NOT function properly.

DISREGARD my saying a 10k pot will not function properly. The vendor manual says that it will.

For forward direction operation, connect the wiper (center post of pot) to terminal strip TB1 - #12. Connect another lead of the pot to TB1 - #10 and the remainder to TB1 - #13. VERY IMPORTANT: do not allow the metal case of the potentiometer to contact the metal enclosure of the drive. You can get a ground loop through TB1 and blow the unit. Do not hold the metal case of the pot and the drive at the same time. You can get a ground loop through Michael and blow the operator.

TB1 - #8 and #9 will need to be jumpered together to run. If you are not using start and stop switches (page 11) you need to jumper TB1 - #5 and #7 to run. After you get it running properly get some switches so you can those features and reverse.

If you have any questions about any other settings BE SURE to ask first instead of guessing and hoping. Do not adjust any of the on-board calibration pots until you know the drive is working properly.

DO NOT connect anything to the field terminal (TB1 - F+ and F-). You do not have a field winding on your motor. Connect your motor to M1 and M2; those teminals are located beside the line voltage teminals (L1 and L2).

Check the label on your motor. I believe it is 14 amps. If so, jumper the hourspower jumper strip (J2) for 15A. Be sure to set the motor voltage jumper for 90 volts. If you are using 220 volt line voltage the drive will provide 180 volt motor voltage if the board is so jumpered. Your motor is 90 volt and 180 v will toast it.

I was needin' a travel buddy....free trip for you if you're interested...I have to drive up there myself anyway...

oops....just checked mapquest....350 miles from your place to mine....plus another 450 (my trip)....yikes! that's a heckuva trip.

'course....pales in comparison to the semi-annual cross country trip I was making every summer and winter from Savannah, GA to Shoshone, ID.....2500 miles each way...

Thank goodness kids came along and gave me a good excuse to stop makin' those trips...!

Thanks Dan. Couldn't make it anyhow. Too much on the plate. I gotta go to that nasty ol'day job tomorrow too. UGH.

Roger you are the MAN! its all set now..... run just fine and dandy.... got a nice little plastic project box to keep the potentiometer safe. ok now one more question... any specs on the type of witch i use for start/stop? and for the reverse switch. now its time to get some pulleys.... and start setting this bad larry up to the KMG! thanks a lot guys i really appreciate it!

I'll bring back plenty of pics and stories, I'm sure, Roger....;)

if you want a good story to go back with get IG his own bottle
and then run, he's all lips when he starts seeing the bottom of it :barf: :p :D .
 :p

For the forward/reverse switch go to Radio Shack and get a single pole - double throw switch. For the stop switch and the start switch (all at Radio Shack) get 1 normally on push button switch and 1 normally off push button switch. I think the off switch is normally on but check that with your manual.

Very good!!! You have a very nice controller at a real steal.

thanks a lot.... its all figured out now.... just need a forward and reverse switch. its mounted and ready to go, i just need to stop at the hardware store and pick up a belt. i'd start the grinding today buti got called in to work!!!. so tomorrow will be a nice day of grinding... and the day after, and the day after, and the day after......... you get the point
