speed safe question

sorry if these questions have been covered, i searched but did not find much info.

i am a knife flicker. i've flicked my para 2 all day long since i bought it,
and it has absolutely no signs of wearing down.

i want to get into zero tolerance but have a concern with speed safe.

if i buy the ZT0301 and flick it constantly, is that considered abuse? is it covered under the warranty?
i'm not talking about wrist flicks here, just using the flipper on the back.

how strong is the speed safe wire? will it stand up to the constant flicking?
how much does it cost for kershaw/zt fix it if it does break?

i know this is a "how many licks till you get to the tootsi roll center of a tootsi pop" question
but around how many flicks is the life span of the speed safe wire?

does the titanium frame lock really wear down "that fast" if flicked open a bunch?
how fast would you say the lock wears down? is that covered under the warranty?
how much does it cost to fix the lock ...can it even be fixed if worn down?

i'd love to get some
info before i make a purchase.

thanks much,
jon

They last about 7 - 10,000 flicks on average, but if they ever break Kershaw will mail you a new one, free of charge. You don't have to be without your knife, don't have to pay a penny, nothing.

awesome! is it easy to replace and put the knife back together? i'm not very mechanically inclined. i don't tinker much...

Thats one thing about Kershaw you don't have to worry one bit about your purchase.

The Ti frame lock will wear, since its softer than the steel blade. It will take a lifetime to wear it out so that it doesn't work, but if you get there, I think they just give you a new frame side.

As for the torsion bar thats a shorter life span, I have read it lasts around 10,000 flips, but I am not sure if they really have tested it, or announced it. I had one not last a month. But they will mail you enough to last a lifetime free of charge.

Don't be scared just go out and buy one!

The only thing is the XXXX blems don't have the warranty, so no replacement frames guaranteed but you can get torsion bars and screws pretty easy.

You need basic tools to disassemble and a little know how, you can watch a you tube video of kershaw mike disassembling a Blur.

Or send it to them they will work on it and send it back and pay their side of the shipping to. Has taken a few weeks in the past.

thanks for the info!!!:)
i'm not quite sure what you are saying here. i'd only want to replace the frame lock if it were to wear down, not if it were to get skuffed up.

Everything you stated is not a real concern with kershaw/zt. Unless you shoot it with a 12 gauge slug or try to dig out of 10 tons of concrete kershaw will take care of you. Free sharpening for life of blade will send you out clips, screws, tortion bars free of charge also no questions asked. If you break the blade or bend the handle you will have to send it in but that's about it. You only have to cover your initial shipment, they pay to send it back to you. Cosmetics are on you! You will not find a better customer service dept. Period. Some blades are sold as blems. Designated with four xxxx's on the lock side of the blade. Usually a tiny insignificant mark on the knife somewhere or a slightly off blade grind. These you can still get sharpened and clip, screws but not new blade or handle pieces. They are usually 15-25% cheaper than new. If you are interested in these contact Dave Anderson or check his site www.kershawguy.com

I only have one blem and its a Volt so I am not expecting any new blades or handles or even clips, so it wasn't a big issue for me. But for a hard user I would say spend the little extra for the full warranty, its worth it. Kershaw does really have the best customer service around.

thank you,
this affirmed what i thought about the quality of this company.
i'll be ordering my 0301 tonight!

i'll be getting the knife, but one more question;
has anybody used this knife without the speed safe wire? does it work just the same (besides the assist open)?
...retention, blade play and whatnot?

It should work the same without the torsion bar, except un assisted. You might have to flip your wrist to get it all the way open, the blade is pretty big and heavy.

I have heard people like to remove it from the 0350, the 10% smaller version, they like it better.

Yes I believe the detent works good to keep it in the handle. Remember like bluejayburly said its a big slab of metal for the blade, so some pivot adjustment and use of the wrist might be required! I hope you like it! Let us know when you get it! Pics!

You will have to drill a detent hole in the blade if you decide to remove the SpeedSafe. The speedsafe works as the detent as well, that's why it's retained inside the handle while closed. ;) I believe the 0350 is the SpeedSafe'd ZT that has a detent hole within the blade. :)

great info guys, i'm stoked and can't wait for it to get here!

i'll post pics once it arrives for sure

thanks very much
