Speedhook

It's an "emergency fishing and snare trapping device". It's a spring loaded contraption that is supposedly used in USAF SERE, SEAL, and Coast Guard survival kits. Apparently, it works so well that it is banned for use in fishing competitions.

I would really like to know where I could get one of these - I would not use it except in an emergency, because I like to keep the element of challenge.

Hi Granite, go visit Brigade Quartermasters website they sell the speedhook for $ 11.99 if I'm correct.

I think that the address is www.actiongear.com or you can try exploration products www.epcamps.com/gear.html They sell speed hooks, gill nets, fishing kits and other survival gear. I've had good luck dealing with them. In reference to your post on snares, ep also carries those. I picked up a set, but haven't tried them yet.

I brought another thread on the topic back to the top. You can see my thoughts there.

I can dig up the ASG issue with the manufacturers name, addy and phone # if anybody would like it. They are less expensive than mail order catalogs!

ASG Dec. 1997 under New Products:
Fishing Speedhook (They misquoted the price, but it might not hurt for you to ask about it, telling them the source. They honored the first order at the misquoted price so they may still do that.)

Speedhook Specialties, Inc.
Dept. ASG
P.O. Box 11215
Merrillville, IN
46411
Phone: 219-398-7806
Fax: 219-736-2435

I phoned and it went VERY well!

I ordered THREE military versions at $3.50 each. They also have a regular version, which was supposed to be $3.50 each while the military version was something like $6.
