Hi all,

in a few weeks i am traveling to Minnesota. i have been checking the weather and it bas been extreme to say the least (-27 F with the wind chill  )

i will be bringing a knife (checked baggage ;) ) and it is between my kershaw JYD 2 CB and kershaw blur. with my gloves i can manipulate both but the blur is easier. my question is how does the torsion bar react to that kind of cold? should i even be worrying? also which knife would you choose? the JYD or the blur?

thanks in advance for the replies.

The only thing I can imagine happening is that the grease in the pocket where the torsion bar sits may get a bit stiff. I would take the JYDII, but that is because it is one of my favorite designs.

I've never noticed any effects.

Maybe if you dip it in water then throw it in the snow and let it freeze. If its just coming out of your pocket though, I can't think of any reason it wouldn't perform as usual.

I can imagine the cold might affect the metal of the torsion bar in some miniscule way, but I've never noticed torsion bars being adversely affected by low temperatures.

the torsion bar is metal not plastic, so it should not be any problem in cold weather, if you really want to know, throw both of them in your freezer and test them. btw, I personally prefer the blur, beautiful knife.

I have never had any problems with the kershaw blur in cold weather and if its easier to use than I would go with the Blur.

Wind chill is for pansies. :D

Actually, wind chill only applies to bare skin. Your knife will never know the difference, the Metrodome is another story however.

I've been carrying my Leek lately, used it for unwrapping the Xmas tree last weekend without any problems. You will need the gloves, so whichever knife you can manage with them would be the better choice.

Well, it gets pretty cold up here a lot, it was -10 F in November. Only thing I noticed about mine was the lubricant on the pivot seemed a little sticker and it made the SpeedSafe slower.
