speedsafe system safety question?

Ok, so I noticed that my little brother keeps a kershaw shallot under his pillow at night. it has no saftey lock like the leek scallion and chive do. but the spring is stiffer on the shallot. anyway, is it safe for him to keep it under his pillow like that? should I tell him that it could spring open in the middle of the night? what are the chances of it springing open? thanks guys.

Unless the flipper is "touched" pretty hard I don't think there would be anything to worry about. I'd guess it would have to be pushed up against a headboard or something before the blade would "deploy".

I wouldn't keep any knife underneath a pillow. Clipped to shorts, fine, but not loose underneath a pillow.

Kind of an odd place to keep a knife, but it shouldn't be any more dangerous than stashing any other kind of knife there would be.
