Anybody ever use one? My wife has a few sets of pruning snips I guess you call them. We also have various other garden tools. I kept coming across this speedy sharp and the corona sharpener. It’s kinda a pain to take apart the pruning snips to sharpen them. Well to my surprise the speedy sharp worked pretty darn well for sharpening the garden tools.

Obviously if something was beaten up bad it would not be ideal. Also I would not use this on my kitchen knives as it literally just rips metal off just like pull through sharpeners. But I got to thinking and grabbed a couple junk knives to see if it would sharpen them at all. To my surprise it did creat a useable edge. I would not call it sharp by any means, but it was able to cut carrots, broccoli, potatoes. I did not attempt tomato’s or any meat yet.

My family does a lot of tent camping and staying at Air B&Bs. I usually bring a cheap sharpening stone some kind with me when we go. I don’t bring nice kitchen knives camping I’ve got a couple a beater I use. I have on occasion forgot to sharpen my camp kitchen knife. Then fumbled with a small cheap stone to sharpen it or spend a wile looking for so improvised sharpening method to get me through the trip.

Also most of the time the Air B&Bs have dull kitchen knives. So I wind up doing the same thing trying to sharpen one. I can’t stand using a dull knife. I’ve been known to just go buy a cheap one that’s not really sharp then just leave it at the place.

However I’m really thinking about buying a couple of these and leaving them in my truck glove box ect. Seems like they will get you through in a pinch.

No way would it replace my whetstones or belt sander. However I’m curious about what other people who have used them think this product. There are a few different brands but they are basically all the same thing. So not specifically the speedy sharp. Just that style of sharpener. As a side note they are wicked ferro rod strikers!!! Wow.

They work well for certain tasks. I especially like them for use almost like a steel or deburring tool. Not my usual method of sharpening, but having a carbide scraper on hand is very useful to have as an option for a variety of contexts.
