As a result of a thread I read here I decided to go to my local Wally mart and pick up some cheap digital camera pouches to use for my PSK stuff. I pick up some $5 samsonite versions. By the way, they are great for this purpose but they have crappy belt loops.

So I decided to double up some 1 1/2" nylon strap and sew it on to replace the cheap straps. I started with a leather sewing needle and polyester thread. It worked fine but it took me an hour to do one, And it wore my meaty fingers out.

I then began rummaging through some of the wife's stuff looking for a better way. low and behold there it was, THE SPEEDY STITCH SEW AWL. I have heard and read about them but never really gave it a thought. I had no idea how it worked. I look it up online and found some instructions. Wow it seemed really easy so I figured I give it a try.

EUREKA!!! This thing is the bomb. It works great. The waxed thread that comes with it is some of the strongest stuff I have ever seen. Fast too.

I'm in love with this thing. I'm so in love with it I want to marry it.

I will never carry a sewing kit again. This thing will be in my kit from now on. You can build a bridge this this thing, Well this and a roll of duct tape, but still.

If you haven't tried one I highly recommend it. Modify your gear and put it in ypur PSK. You'll be glad you did.

I didn't see a tutorial or anything explaining how it worked, but it LOOKS simple enough that even I could use it. Thanks for the info TBall!

I don't have any comments on the awl, but just wanted to add that I picked up one of those Sampsonite camera pouches, too. Pretty nice little size for a PSK, or just extra goodies. I like the shoulder strap.

The stitch isn't as strong as a saddle stitch though. Thats why I stick to saddle stitches for my sheaths. For this app, you may not care.
