I was going to renew my gold membership, and then sell two of my knives that don't get a lot of carry time. If both sell, I should have $300. So, help me spend my money. My "want list" is enormously long, so I can't decide. I want to get a midtech like a Southern Grind Bad Monkey or a Kingdom Armory Mini Samaritan, but I also want to try an Emerson. There is also some discontinued Benchmade's that I want to add to my growing collection. Help me out here.

get the tanto bad monkey....it has the wave, and carbon fiber.....best of emerson with a little flair:-)

I have a Southern Grind Bad Monkey, can't reccommend it enough. It really is a superb knife. The fit and finish is top notch, I honestly don't have a single complaint. Some of the first run of them had a weak detent but they have fixed that now. A lot of people bypass it because of the Sandvick blade but that's their loss, it is a great using steel and they do it well. It takes a razor edge and holds it well enough. If you are considering an Emerson I would skip it and get the BM. Better ergoes (subjective, I know), better fit and finish, Emerson Wave, CF over sand papery G10, Ti liners and a lot of hand finishing.

Not on your list but other knives to consider:
-Fantoni Hide, HB01
-Microtech Socom Elite

Thanks for the in depth mini review! I may pick one up if it pops up in the Exchange. Would you say it's a fragile knife, or a perfectly capable EDC?

Get onto the market and look for the first great deal on one of the models you want. Remember that you can always get production stuff later, but customs are rare and very infrequently discounted.

I would say it is a perfectly capable edc. I wouldn't hesitate to use it as hard as I would use any other liner lock of a similar size.

Ok, thanks. The slim build and CF make me think of a gent's folder, not really my taste. I do love the Bad Monkey though.

I definitely wouldn't call it a gent's folder. Not by a long shot. It's a rather large knife, too large to be remotely dressy. And the Wave puts it firmly outside the gent class. Can you imagine the looks you'd get if you waved it out of your suit pocket to nick that thread on your pants? That might actually be funny.

If a mini-Samaritan will fit your hand, then it's easy to say that a small Sebenza will fit also. For just about $300, you can find one just barely used on the Exchange here. You can always have it renewed cheaply at the Spa anytime you want, and it will last you your life-time. No doubt in my mind. I use a large Sebenza due to my larger hand.

The Mini Samaritan does not fit my hand at all haha, I just like everything else about it. IMO it's one of the better looking midtechs.
