This is my second posting. Does this make me a knife nut?
My first post resulted in the purchase of a Spyderco Delica. That led to a Spyderco Salsa and a Spyderco Navigator. All three of them are great for EDC at work.

This time I am looking for something a bit larger. A folder with a clip would be nice. I really like the thumb stud of the Salsa so I will give preference to any suggestion that has a thumbstud.
Basically I am looking to replace my Buck 110 which I have had for 15 years and weighs a TON. I never take it anywhere because it is just too darned heavy for weekend walk-around carry.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

At what blade length?
There are enough big folders from Spyderco to make you happy, and there are even more big folders (like 5.5" blade) to make you happy, so you better let us know what blade length you're looking for ;)

Fair enough. Let's say that I'm looking for something around 3-1/2" cutting length. Plus or minus 1/4". The blade on my Buck is 3-1/2" cut and 4" total blade length.

Although it doesn't have a "thumb-stud", the FRN Spyderco Endura would be an excellent choice.

One of my favorites is a BM921 Switchback. It actualy has two blades, on 3.3 inches and the other around two. A realy buitiful knife, a deep blue finish and chrome clip. The main blade is Crucible S30V and the secondary is 440c.

I have to agree with G'man99. I have the FRN/SE and SS/PE Enduras. They are both sound as it pertains to ergonomics, size and function. In fact they are as big as I want to go right now anyway. If you want a larger knife look at the Spydie Mili'. I've held a few and if I do go for a larger blade down the road it will most likely be my choice. BTW good choice on the Delica, Salsa and Navigator. I already have the Navi' and the Delica and I plan to make the Salsa my next purchase.

How about a Benchmade 806?? Spydercos are great, but you need to branch out and try some other makers:)

Benchmade makes several that would fall in your range. The 710 would be the largest and the 730 would be next, as far as thumbstuds go. The 806D2 would make a great edc if you don't mind the hole. Another knife I personally think you CAN NOT go wrong with is the Al Mar SERE. With the pocket clip it has the knife virtually disappears into your pocket. While a little heavier than the BM offerings it has a fit and finish that rivals a much higher priced knife. The VG-10 steel is easy to sharpen and takes and holds an edge. Just my $.02 worth!:D

what exactly do you mean by thumb stud? The Salsa (as far as I know) has a round hole. Do you mean the plate on the spine of the knife for extra leverage? (spyderco calls it a "Cobra Hood")

My recommendation would be the endura, by the way. it's a workhorse, cuts everything (esp. serrated) and is very apt for self defense

What Spyderco calls the cobra hood seems to help me when I open the knife with one hand. I thought that it was a "thumb stud".

Remember. I am here to learn. :)

Based on all of your suggestions I guess I should spend some time going through the Benchmade online catalog.

By the way, I realize now why I like the Delica better than the Navigator. The FRN Delica is easier to pull out of a pocket. The clip ends about 1/2" from top of the knife so you have that 1/2" of plastic to grab it and pull. The Navigator has almost none of it sticking out of the pocket and it is smooth aluminum with no place to really grip when you pull it up. I'm really big on ergonomics.
