So far im going with the Benchmade osborne 940 I will spend up to $200 if u can convince me. Any suggestions?

That's not a bad choice.

I'm getting a Benchmade 943 soon. The total for it with priority shipping and insurance is a hair under $130.

Several interesting and different alternatives exist. Here are a few to set you drooling.

1. I don't have personal experience with these but they should be awesome. Beretta high quality tactical folders are now at a HUGE discount at the Beretta online shop. Good CPMS30V steel is good:

2. If the weight and size doesn't bother you too much, then the tank-like ZT200 is the mother of all sub $150 knives:

3. Or you could opt for something still tactical looking but more elegant: a model of the Mcusta Tactility Elite series, with pure VG10 or "layered" damascus blades. And now at a bit of discount at the friendly people of Japanese Knife Direct :

4. But myself, these days I prefer somewhat more elegant, more sophisticated looking designs. Such as for example this suave french gentlemen knive from Fontenille-Pataud. Less than $150 at worldknives :

5. Or also by worldknives, a reinvention of the classic laguiole, now with one-hand opening and a lockback. Yet it's still as elegant as ever:

I have Knives 1, 2 and 3 out of this list of pictures and I agree that either one is a great choice. My comments would be:

Beretta's - Great deal from the Beretta online store. The small and large versions of the BH Tactical were $200 and $250 respectively, MSRP. Now you can get them for $89 and $99. The large is BIG, the small is a great EDC IMHO. I have two of each.

ZT 0200/0205 (Knifeworks) - Awesome is all I can for under $130. Big, strong and a bit heavy but awesome duty ready knife!

Mcusta - I have two of the Tactility models (Micarta and Corian) and 5 other Mcusta's, all pocket clip models. I LOVE these knives and EDC at least one 2-3 days a week recently! Love them!

i love mcusta but something that beautiful i could never use. and the zt 200 has always been a knife i wanted but i think it may be a little too big

I don't have one yet, but I'm in the process of coercing my girlfriend into getting me a Spyderco Paramilitary for Christmas. I've heard nothing but good things about them, and I'm really intrigued by the compression lock.

If I had $150-ish to blow on myself though, I'd probably go for a Benchmade as well, something of the Skirmish/Kulgera/710 variety.

If you're looking for a nice knife with a fantastic grind and steel, look on the popular auction site for a Kershaw Blur in SG2. Beautiful knife, SpeedSafe assisted, and a great blade of SG2. They can be found for around $ 90.

It's the knife in the middle:

Unfortunately, the Beretta online store doesn't ship abroad, otherwise the smaller one would seriously tempt me. But still, as I wrote above, these days I am more into elegant yet well performing knives such as items 4 and 5 in my list. Your collection isn't complete until you have a laguiole. A timeless classic.

Is there something like this with a 3" blade, as opposed to 4", cause i'd pick it up in a second...

{yawn} You done good with your research, BigV, that's why you arrived at the Osborne. Stick with your gut instinct. Get the BM Osborne.

If I were going to spend that amount, I'd go with a
Spyderco Chinook 3. A guy I work with has one and it's a beautiful beast.
Made in USA, CPM-S30V blade, tip up or tip down carry, G-10 handle with
curves at each end to keep it firmly in hand, and (quoting from the 2008
Spyderco Catalog) "...the thickest, hard use back lock Spyderco makes..."
Around $130.00.

Normally I'd post 2-4 nice Kershaws that you could buy for $150 total, but your post is about something that is on my wish-list too.

Get the 940.

No, they're all like this. BTW, the full range can be seen here on the producer's site. And there is a short video (with heavy french voice accent) presenting it at the top of the page.

And here is a promotional video clip on youtube of the beautiful Fontenille-Pataud Le Thiers shown above.
your credit card will start itching, I promise...

ahaha, those are the three Benchmades I'm trying to pick from. Well, a mini skirmish, 710D2 and Kulgera.

what do you think about a spyderco chinook? it is a very strong knife, high quality made in usa, costs like 130 or so i think
