Spending someone else's money

Hey everyone, here's a Saturday night hypothetical situation for you. A friend of a friend tells you they want to have a cool collection of folding knives. They have all the fixed blades, multitools, saks, etc that they ever need, what they want is a collection of edc folders that are "cool". When you ask what "cool" means to them, they say something like "you're the knife guy, I trust your judgement, do whatever you think is best". These knives are not necessarily fulfilling a particular need, just fun to have in a collection. They have no interest in doing their own research or forming their own opinions, but all the same, you want to do right by them, because despite what your ex says, you're really a good person, deep down.

What do you buy them? Do you get them one $400 knife? Four $100 knives? Ten $40 knives? And which ones?

EDC can be quite subjective specially in terms of blade length, overall size and weight. Will they appreciate a single $400 knife versus several less expensive ones...

A Spyderco Southard flipper (unless they're allergic to flippers) at under $240 is awesome at any price and has a 3.4" blade.

A Benchmade Contego is a pretty awesome cutting machine at under $140 with a 4" blade of CPM-M4.

That's not a bad outlay of less than $380!

Spyderco Sage 1 or 2. A Benchmade 940 Osborne. And a piranha bodyguard. There are so many options and there is not one right answer. Get them one knife a sebenza or 3-4 knives of Benchmade and Spyderco. Those are just my 3 that I quickly was able to think of while staying under $400. I like to have multiple knives in my rotation and will carry 2 knives the majority of the time a smaller knife and a bigger knife. I think options are nice and would prefer to get at least 2 knives out of the $400 if that is all I was ever going to spend on folding knives.

Gotta hit Benchmade, Spyderco, and Zero Tolerance. I'd say 940 ($180), PM2 ($120), and 801 ($190) for a varied, rounded, awesome collection
