Spent all morning and last night on this

So my father-in-law is trying to sell his beat-up Remington shotgun but it looked like a possum's ass. The parkerization was corroded and badly worn, pitted in some places, scratched, etc. He asked me to paint it for him before he sold it to make it look a LITTLE better and I agreed even though I've never painted a gun in my life. How hard could it be, right? So I spent last night stripping it down, sanding the crap out of it, steel-wooling, and cleaning it. This morning I painted it and this is the result:

I'd say it came out pretty decent for a first attempt, eh? I'm thinking I should maybe start doing it for people, maybe make some cash. What do you think?

The wifey likes it.

If I was your father-in-law, I'd be annoyed because now the thing looks too good to sell so now I'd have to keep it.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to try out some other things with the next cheap rifle I come across. Might just do the stock next time as I'm not sure that the paint will last very long on the metal bits. Anyone wanna donate an SKS? :D

I'm not sure what type of paint you are using for this shotgun but, if it's not a firearm specific finish it won't last long.

Looks good though. I've had some fun painting firearms too; there are a lot of styles and patterns out there and there's no reason you can't look to them for inspiration if you decide to do some more.

Very nice work. As mentioned before, to sell or not to sell? That is indeed the question now.

I was worried about the longevity of the finish on the metal parts but it was a better option than leaving it the way it was. I'm going to recommend to whoever buys it to clear coat it and be prepared to touch it up. I just scooped up a Gewehr 98 with an after-market stock that I might experiment with. I'll post pictures if I do.

Well done. You got some skills, Blais. You should look into stocking up on some Gun Kote, or whatever those products are called that are specifically designed for firearms.

don't be leaning that thing against a tree then turning your back on it ,,,it would blend right in and be invisible lol. had a camo jacket on time that i layed down and walked away on ,,took freaking forever to return and find it again

nice job by the way

Very nice, Blais.

We do this type of work at my shop.

However in order to do this kind of work commercially, (firearms refinishing) you will need to get a manufacturer's FFL licence from the BATFe.

This is a new ruling that was enacted this past year.....

Just to refinish a gun.

Idiotic, ain't it?

Holy cow! Just to put a new finish on? I could see if I was modifying the mechanisms or altering the serial number but a little paint?:jerkit:
Well, thanks for the heads up. Looks like I won't be painting any more for sale. Oh well...
