Was a beautiful day and about 32F with some full sun as the day progressed so I went out for a burn. I actually got sunburn on my face and neck!
First order of business....drop this heavy pack and sit down for a bit!
I used fluff of the inner bark of a downed cottonwood to get things going.
I got this last time out night-hiking.
Since I can't figure out the proper spelling, I'll just say I beat my Wildertools (Rick Marchand) into frozen oak and cottonwood, including the knots, with a stubby heavy rabbit club because it makes short work and is Fun! It's also my knife so I can use it as I see fit!
Then onto some curls after the beating. Rick's HT is spot on as are his grinds. His leather work is superb! Very talented knifemaker.
I don't think this is an official model as I just told him to beef up one of his other models and make the blade and handle longer. It's 1/4" thick but with the grind, it will still slice quite well.
My Trio for the day. All came in handy.
Enjoying the fruits of my labors.
Keeping my axe warm.
A little walk around on the well used game trail and I find green things on St Patties Day!
Garlic mustard?
Some tiny thin vine took over under the bark of a dead tree.
What St. Patties Day without some Old Gran-Dad.
Working the coals with my shovel after dousing it and putting on chunks of ice I found in shady area.
Slack water is clear of ice.
Got back to the car and drove over to a little waterfall to snap a few pics. The CCC built this in the 1930's.
Great day out!
More Wildertools.
Contoured handle wrap (leather backing)
Rick's leatherwork.
