Saw this machete in a catalogue recently. It has some extraordinary claims with regard to its performance and other uses.

Is there anyone who has a first-hand experience with this survival machete? I am curious.

It's heavy and not all that well made. I would also preffer that the hammer were replaced with a cutting edge.

Other than that it cuts well by virtue of weight, and makes a good shovel/Spade.

I have thought about getting one. They look neat, but I think they want a little too much for them everywhere I have seen one, and like you say I have never seen any feedback to know if they are worth the $$

I just put mine up for trade or sale on the exchange! However mine has a coat of tactical green Rustoleum.:D It's a pretty nice tool, and worked very well during camping trip's. BUT, you have to use it until your hands harden up a little, and it would be best for someone with largish hands. And mine seems to be Very Well made, I put it through a solid summer of camping trips and hacked alot of wood, no loosening of parts or anything else for that matter. I was never sure exactly what steel it's made of, but it RUST's! That's why I sanded the rust off mine and applied the rustoleum. OH and the "sawteeth" on the back, THEY ACTUALLY WORK!!! Imagine sawteeth on a knife that SAW!!! MINE ARE FRIGGIN SHARP!! (cut myself...) I've edited the picture to give you an idea, the red was actually quite sharp when I received it, and was able to do wood shaving and similar work with it.
The green was surprisingly sharp as well and provides a "sweet spot" I found it perfect for soft woods, and the blue is a thick almost axe-like edge. Not sharp, not quite dull, this is perfect for the hard stuff. Nothing would stand up to this edge.

There's a review in a current UK magazine of a revised full tang version with cord wrapped handle.

The "green" also cuts well because the curve will shear your cutting stock. I would much preffer a sharp slightly smaller angle edge on the "blue" portion, though. When I said "not well made" I was reffering to the material quality and general workmaship. It is quite durable.

FWIW:

This is really a Russian Air Force "survival" (what we would call it, or machete) tool. It was and still is placed into survival kits for MIGs, Sukhoi's, Tupalov's etc., etc. The Russians refer to it as a "Multi-Tool". I own one and keep it situated with my other "aircrew survival" equipment. I would defiantely reccommend it, if that means anything.
