Spey Blade

For skinning and the castration of cattle, though few people do the latter themselves now. Cattlemen usually hire a vet I am told.

They work well if ya need to cut a round hole in paper or other thin material.

Chris is right, it's for speying or neutering an animal, most likely cattle, seein' as how you mostly find them on a stockman pattern.

Now it's 2002 nowhere near a cattle drive, what do I use it for? Mostly a scalple, something for mostly fleshy material, I've used it to slice my finger to remove a deep splinter.

Also in skinning small animals, squirrel, possum, raccoon.:D

I've used a spey blade to castrate a lot of calves in my day, and to skin a lot of small game. I've even used them on game as large as deer in a pinch, although they aren't optimal for the job.

The spey blade is a throwback to an earlier time; but so is the Stockman pattern, really.

But I still like 'em.

:)
